Interim Finance Manager
* Location: Guildford (with option to work from home 1-2 days per week)
* Contract Type: Interim (4-6 months)
* Job Type: Full-time (36 hours per week)
* Salary: £250 - £300 per day (umbrella rate)
Join my client - a Guildford based charity, as an Interim Finance Manager. This role is crucial in ensuring the effective management of their finances, including payroll, and providing strategic financial insights to facilitate operational and strategic decisions.
Day-to-day of the role:
* Manage day-to-day financial operations within the guidelines of our financial policies, ensuring all financial documentation is current and reflects agreed practices.
* Develop and oversee annual budgets for each service area in collaboration with the CEO and service managers.
* Provide regular financial monitoring reports to support service managers in budget management.
* Produce quarterly management accounts and reports for the CEO and Board of Trustees, addressing any significant variances.
* Attend and contribute to quarterly finance group and board meetings, presenting financial reports and advising on financial matters.
* Manage monthly payroll processes and ensure timely payments to HMRC.
* Maintain accurate records on the accounting system, ensuring timely processing and monthly reconciliations.
* Manage creditor payments and ensure timely receipt of grants.
* Conduct regular bank reconciliations and manage bank accounts to maintain appropriate funding levels.
* Collaborate with the Treasurer to manage investments and reserves effectively.
* Prepare statutory accounts and manage the annual audit process.
* Ensure compliance with legal requirements for financial submissions to the Charity Commission and Companies House.
* Manage tax and VAT returns as applicable and oversee Gift Aid claims and pension system operations.
* Serve as a key member of the senior management team, contributing to the overall objectives of the charity.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Proven experience in a finance role, preferably within the charity or public sector.
* Strong technical accounting skills and understanding of fund accounting.
* Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA) or qualified by experience.
* Experience managing payroll, either in-house or through a payroll bureau.
* Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Xero) and Microsoft Excel.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly.
* Ability to work independently and take ownership of finance processes.
