Main Trust Switchboard Telephonist / Emergency Call Handler

A 17.5 hour vacancy is available within the Trust’s Main Switchboard department. This position covers the 24‑hour rota, including night shifts, bank holidays, weekends and requires flexible coverage of colleague absences.
The role is largely independent, demanding a confident, multi‑tasking personality. Primary duties include:
* Managing calls swiftly and efficiently, directing callers to the correct person or department.
* Answering up to 800+ calls per shift.
* Actioning all emergency calls received.
* Programming pagers as requested.
* Drawing up rotas for departments within the Trust, both online and hard copies.
* Completing online forms.
* Handling all Trust Estate alarms.
* Contacting emergency services when required.
Job responsibilities also involve:
* Remaining calm and efficient when handling emergencies.
* Adopting a flexible and out‑of‑the‑box approach.
* Maintaining a confident and enthusiastic personality.
* Demonstrating natural enthusiasm to help people.
* Exhibiting a positive attitude and the confidence to work alone.
* Working at short notice to cover unplanned absences.
* Covering the 24/7 rota without issue.
* Adapting to a challenging, varied day-to-day environment.
Reliability is essential and confidence is a core requirement for this role.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB) will be required to check for any previous criminal convictions.
£25,272 a year pro rata. Additional enhancements are paid for unsocial hours worked.
