* Role Overview
The Head Compliance & AML will be responsible for ensuring the organization adheres to all applicable regulatory requirements, internal compliance policies, and international best practices and operations management. The role focuses on preventing money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud, and other financial crimes through proactive monitoring, investigations, and reporting of suspicious activities.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
* Ensure the business complies with all relevant AML/CFT laws, regulations, and guidelines.
* Assist in maintaining and updating compliance policies, procedures, and frameworks.
* Conduct periodic compliance risk assessments and recommend corrective measures.
* Support regulatory audits, inspections, and liaison with regulators.
Anti-Money Laundering (AML) & Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF)
* Conduct Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) reviews.
* Monitor customer onboarding and ongoing KYC processes to ensure regulatory compliance.
* Identify, investigate, and escalate unusual transactions or patterns.
* File Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) and Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) with the relevant authorities.
Transaction Surveillance & Monitoring
* Perform daily transaction monitoring using internal systems and tools.
* Analyze alerts, investigate potential red flags, and document findings.
* Escalate high-risk cases and recommend action in line with compliance procedures.
* Maintain accurate records of monitoring and investigations for audit and regulatory purposes.
Operations Management
* Oversee daily operational processes to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with internal policies.
* Support transaction processing, reconciliations, and customer service escalations.
* Ensure operational controls are maintained to minimize risk and service interruptions.
* Collaborate with technology and product teams to streamline workflows and improve customer experience.
Training & Awareness
* Provide training and awareness sessions to staff on compliance, AML, and fraud prevention.
* Promote a strong compliance culture within the organization.
Qualifications & Skills
* Bachelor's degree in Law, Finance, Business, Risk Management, or related field.
* Professional certification preferred (e.g., CAMS, ICA, ACAMS, CCO).
* 3+ years' experience in compliance, AML, fraud monitoring, or financial services.
* Strong knowledge of AML/CFT laws, regulations, and international best practices (FATF, Basel, etc.).
* Experience with transaction monitoring systems and case management tools.
* Analytical, detail-oriented, with excellent problem-solving skills.
* Strong communication and report-writing abilities.
* High ethical standards and ability to handle confidential information.
* Must have an understanding of FCA regulations for fintech companies and be familiar with compliance structure especially on S-EMI and EMI.
