Food and Beverage Assistant Job Description:
A Food and Beverage Assistant is responsible for preparing food & beverages as part of the Front of House team. Their duties include assisting with food & drink preparation at the Cake, Ice Cream and Coffee counters, keeping these fully stocked, clean and tidy throughout opening times and assisting customers with their orders and processing transactions.
Food and Beverage Assistant duties and responsibilities
Food and Beverage Assistants are primarily responsible for providing food and drink to guests. This can involve either direct service or preparing orders for the Café Assistants to serve to the customers. Their main duties and responsibilities include:
* Preparing and serving well-crafted speciality coffee drinks, tea and beverages, light snacks such as baked goods and Ice Cream
* Grinding, brewing coffee and operating Barista Coffee Machine, Drinks Blenders and Ice Cream Scooping
* Serving from Ice Cream Counter and preparing Ice Cream & Milkshake orders for customers
* Developing and maintaining expert knowledge of coffee and educating customers and colleagues about these coffees
* Consistently providing well-crafted, beautifully presented beverages and Ice creams
* Speaking and interacting with both new and regular customers
* Maintaining a clean, organised and sanitised working environment
* Regularly performing stock checks for the Front of House area and replenishing
* Taking drinks orders and serving drinks to guests at their table or throughout the venue
* Contributing to a positive work environment
* Wearing the correct uniform and remaining smartly dressed at all times
* Taking the customers' orders and processing transactions on the POS system
Food and Beverage Assistant - Skills and qualifications
Food and Beverage Assistant needs food service and waiting skills, alongside excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate well with guests. Food and Beverage Assistants also need excellent knowledge of food and drink preparation and hygiene standards. A successful Food and Beverage Assistant candidate will have various prerequisite skills and qualifications.
* Ability to provide guests with efficient and speedy service in a busy café environment
* Excellent food service skills and attention to detail, including to deliver drinks on trays
* Ability to work well with other team members and to follow directions from Supervisors
* Knowledge of basic food preparation techniques and ability to follow basic recipes
* Excellent knowledge of food and drink products and the ability to communicate these to customers where required
* Excellent hygiene standards and organisational ability
* Valid food hygiene certificate from the Food Standards Agency (training provided)
* Able to to remain calm under pressure especially during peak hours
* Basic knowledge of computers, especially with the point of sale system
* Following health and safety guidelines
* Being aware of and following operational policies and procedures
* Being punctual and maintaining regular and consistent attendance
* The ability to work flexible hours and shifts which may include early mornings, weekends and bank holidays
Food and Beverage Assistant - Experience requirements
thelittletearooms offer on-the-job training and typically require no previous experience, whereas it is desirable to have a year or more experience in the coffee service industry. As the job involves working with customers, previous experience in a customer-facing environment, such as the hospitality or retail industries is beneficial.
