ABridge Inspection Engineer (PE) will beresponsible for assisting in various aspects of a bridge safetyinspection project. Typical responsibilities include assisting infield inspections to include bridge safety inspections andstructural condition assessments and preparing bridge safetyinspection reports. May be required to perform bridge safetyinspection team leader duties as assigned which include theplanning and organization of a bridge safety inspection or a groupof bridge safety inspections the performance and completion of saidinspections the coordination and field liaison of various accessequipment and maintenance of traffic providers as well as theowner/agency as appropriate and the completion of the bridge safetyinspection report.
Generalresponsibilities include but are not limited to thefollowing:
* Serving as anAssistant or Inspection Team Leader for NBI bridge safetyinspections
* Writing bridge safety inspectionreports or reviewing inspection reports written by otherengineers/inspectors
* Supervising and directingthe work of inspectors EITs and CADD technicians asappropriate
* Perform or assist in thedevelopment and calculation of bridge live load ratings
* Office and field coordination with vendors subconsultantsand owners/agencies as appropriate
* Meetingwith clients to prepare and validate scope of work
* Preparation of marketing and presentation materials asdirected
* Obtain guidance from Senior BridgeEngineers and the Department Head as necessary to resolve technicaland coordination issues and conflicting criteria
* Complying with the companys quality control practices andprocedures
* Working with responding to andtaking direction from the Managing Principals Project ManagersOperations Directors and senior management
* Participate in team meetings and coordinating effortswith other team members
* Mentoring andmonitoring the professional development of junior bridge inspectionstaff
Projectresponsibilities include but are not limited to thefollowing:
* Perform bridgesafety inspection tasks as directed
* Serve inthe role of Bridge Inspection Team Leader on projects asassigned
* Preparing or assisting in preparationof scope and fee proposals for bridge safety inspectionprojects
* Preparing accurate and completebridge safety inspection reports for project submittals
* Reviewing calculations and all work products produced byinspectors and EITs assigned to the project asappropriate
* Reviewing all work productsproduced by support staff assigned to the project
* Coordinate work product with other disciplines asappropriate
* Adhere to project department andcorporate QA/QC procedures as appropriate
* Adhere to project budget and schedule
Education Technology andExperience
* Graduate of anABETaccredited college or university in one of the followingdisciplines: Civil Engineering (structural emphasis) Civil andEnvironmental Engineering (structural emphasis) or CivilEngineering Technology (structural emphasis)
* Successful completion of NHI Course #130055 SafetyInspection of InService Bridges is desirable
* Fully licensed Professional Engineer or StructuralEngineer in at least one US state preferably in the localjurisdiction
* NCEES Record to facilitatelicensure through reciprocity is desirable
* Active participation in NSPE ASCE ASHE or other relatedprofessional organizations is desirable
* Minimum of two (2) years of bridge inspection experienceis desirable
* Knowledge and familiarity of theNational Bridge Inspection Standards AASHTO Manual for BridgeEvaluation and the Bridge Inspectors Reference Manual
* Prior experience in the design and/or construction ofbridges is desirable
* Prior experience on VDOTand/or Federal bridge inspection projects is desirable
* Successful completion of NHI Course #130053 BridgeInspection Refresher Training #130078 Fracture Critical InspectionTechniques for Steel Bridges and/or #130087 Inspection andMaintenance of Ancillary Highway Structures is desirable
EssentialAbilities
* Travel anaverage of 50% of the time
* Work may involvetimes outside normal working hours and on weekends
* Work outdoors with varying terrain and all types ofweather
* Stand walk and climb for 8 hours aday
* Be able to lift 5060 lbs and operatebridge safety inspection equipment
* Be able towork at heights over water and in confined spaces
Additional Knowledge Skills andAbilities
* A BridgeInspection Engineer (PE) should be able to effectively utilizecurrent company software programs for word processing emailaccounting and information management.
* Workingfamiliarity with analysis design and production software includingbut not limited to Microsoft Excel and Access AASHTOWareBrR andMicrostation to a point of being able to understand thecapabilities and limitations of the programs and interact with thesupport staff in their use of the software is highlydesirable.
* Ability to prepare effective andconcise documents and correspondence.
* Abilityto make presentations to a variety of groups
* Have a cando attitude with a desire to provideoutstanding professional services

Physical Requirements
Work is a combination of active and sedentary dependentupon the departments schedule. While in the office work issedentary. The office work area is lighted heated and ventilated.Time spent in the office for this position may require extendedperiods of standing sitting as well as some repetitive movementsbending and lifting of minimal weight. Reasonable accommodationsmay be made to enable individuals with disabilities to performessential functions. Bridge inspection in the field is often spentoutdoors with varying terrain and all types of weather. Field workmay involve times outside normal working hours and on weekends.Must be able to lift 5060 pounds and operate bridge safetyinspection equipment at varying heights to include over water andin confined spaces.
