Base pay range

Are you looking to progress in your career to become Chartered professionals in an exciting and supportive environment?

Join our dynamic Civil Engineering teams and work on high-profile, nationally recognised projects through the Transport Scotland Graduate Scheme. Accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), this program offers an exceptional opportunity to develop your skills and achieve Chartered status with the ICE, preparing you for senior roles in the industry.

Since 2006, our Graduate Training Scheme has successfully guided graduates to become Chartered Civil Engineers. Designed alongside the ICE Training Scheme, it provides tailored, focused development from day one, helping to nurture 'in-house' talent for possible future senior positions within Transport Scotland.

Our internal rotations within Transport Scotland, combined with external secondments to design consultancies and construction sites, offer graduates unique opportunities to gain hands‑on experience and develop skills that are hard to achieve elsewhere. This broadens their expertise in planning, engineering, and project management, helping them make sound engineering decisions.

Graduates enter a Training Agreement with Transport Scotland, outlining responsibilities and aligning with the Professional Body’s Training Scheme. Progress is tracked through the ICE’s Professional Development Online system, ensuring graduates are on track to meet ICE Member attributes and achieve professional qualification.

In the event of a large number of applications, an initial sift will be conducted on the Lead Criteria of the Behaviour Making Effective Decisions. Candidates who pass the initial sift will have their applications fully assessed against all remaining criteria.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools can be used to support your application, but all statements and examples provided must be truthful, factually accurate and taken directly from your own experience. Where plagiarism has been identified (presenting the ideas and experiences of others, or generated by artificial intelligence, and presented as your own) applications will be withdrawn and internal candidates may be subject to disciplinary action.
