An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Stroke and Neurology services at The Royal London Hospital as a Consultant Neurologist & Stroke Physician. This substantive consultant post offers the opportunity to work within one of the UK's leading Hyper Acute Stroke Units and a well-established Neurology department, delivering high quality care across a diverse and complex patient population.
Responsibilities
* Provide consultant‑led hyper‑acute and acute stroke care, participate in the Trust’s thrombolysis and thrombectomy on‑call rota, and contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive neurology service.
* Perform inpatient and outpatient duties, work in multidisciplinary teams, and engage in service development, teaching, audit and quality improvement activities.
* Support the Stroke Clinical Lead and Clinical Director in advancing service developments and improvements.
* Facilitate rapid transfer of stroke patients from Barts Health to other Acute Stroke Units along the relevant pathway.
* Contribute to the provision of a comprehensive and efficient acute and general neurology service.
* Maintain and promote teamwork and multi‑disciplinary collaboration with specialities closely working with neurology, sharing responsibility for providing evidence‑based standards of care for all inpatients and outpatients.
* Adhere to the clinical and quality standards set out in the Patients Charter and local purchasers’ contracts.
* Liaise effectively and in a timely manner with general practitioners, community services and all healthcare agencies.
* Encourage and foster governance processes at clinical, managerial and medical levels, and participate in regional audit to support evidence‑based medicine.
* Participate fully in department management and liaise closely with General Managers, Clinical Leads and Clinical Directors.
* Engage in continuing medical education activities, with a commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including development and delivery of a teaching programme.
* Maintain responsibility for the care of patients in charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.
* Lead and ensure proper functioning of the services in charge in line with agreed Trust policies.
* Develop personal specialty interests, including active participation in research programmes.
* Hold corporate responsibility for managing junior medical staff, including approval and monitoring of junior staff rotas and locum appointments.
