Senior Quantity Surveyor – Commercial Location: Ipswich Salary: £60-£70k package Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent About the Role We are looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to take ownership of the financial management of commercial construction projects. You will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered on budget, on time, and to the highest quality, while building strong relationships with clients, contractors, and internal teams. This is an exciting opportunity to lead, mentor, and drive commercial excellence across high-value projects. Key Responsibilities Oversee the financial performance of assigned projects, ensuring budgets, forecasts, and valuations are accurate and up to date. Manage subcontractor agreements, ensuring compliance with performance and financial criteria. Prepare and deliver precise reports on project costs, progress, and end-of-life financial expectations. Monitor project timelines and scope changes, documenting and costing adjustments as required. Support the pre-contract team, contributing to bids and future commercial opportunities. Lead and mentor junior or assistant quantity surveyors, fostering a collaborative and effective team environment. Manage supply chain relationships, evaluating bids for value and overseeing application and payment processes. Ensure adherence to contractual obligations, including loss and expense management. Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial risks throughout the project lifecycle. Collaborate with project teams to interpret drawings, specifications, and site information to ensure financial and technical accuracy. Maintain awareness of Health & Safety legislation, ensuring commercial decisions align with compliance requirements. About You Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and influence junior team members. Excellent communicator with the ability to build trust and maintain professional relationships with clients, subcontractors, and colleagues. Experienced in construction contracts (e.g., JCT, NEC) and knowledgeable in dispute resolution and risk management strategies. Highly organised with a proactive, solution-focused approach to financial challenges. Skilled in preparing accurate financial reports and cost analyses using modern IT tools. Commercially astute, with a clear understanding of budgets, cost forecasting, and project valuation procedures. Eligible to work in the UK with a full driving licence.
