Job overview We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Band 6 Staff Nurse to join our Cardiac Catheter Laboratory team at St Peter’s Hospital. This role offers the opportunity to deliver high-quality, patient-centred nursing care to patients undergoing a wide range of diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures. The post holder will work across the catheter laboratories, recovery area and pre-assessment services, supporting both elective and emergency care, including participation in the on-call rota when qualified. This is an excellent opportunity for nurses with interventional cardiology background to further develop specialist skills within a supportive multidisciplinary team. Advert Deliver a high standard of nursing care to patients undergoing cardiac procedures within the catheter laboratories and recovery areas Deputise for Lead Cardiac Nurse Deliver mentorship and guidance to Cardiac nurses and Senior health care support workers Assist during diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures, including scrub nurse duties following appropriate training Prepare patients and clinical environments, including equipment checks and sterile preparation Monitor, assess and document patients’ condition before, during and after procedures Recognise and respond appropriately to clinical deterioration and emergency situations Participate in the on-call rota for emergency out-of-hours interventional services Support patient flow and act as coordinator within the catheter lab Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with Trust policies Contribute to patient education, discharge planning and health promotion Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective and timely patient care Working for our organisation Ashford and St. Peters Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of more than 410,000 people living in North-West Surrey, parts of Hounslow and beyond. For more information about a career at ASPH please visit: www.asph-careers.org Detailed job description and main responsibilities The post holder will be responsible for the care of patients undergoing cardiac catheter laboratory procedures, from Pre-assessment clinic, admission through to recovery and discharge. This includes preparing patients, assisting during procedures, monitoring physiological parameters, recognising complications and ensuring safe post-procedure care. The role requires competence in working within a high-acuity environment, supporting operators during procedures, maintaining aseptic technique, completing safety checklists and ensuring accurate documentation. Once trained, the post holder will undertake scrub duties, support haemostasis management and contribute to emergency cardiac care including cardiac arrest situations within the cath lab. The post holder will communicate effectively with patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team, including providing complex and sensitive information. They will contribute to service development, clinical audit, education and supervision of students and junior staff, and maintain their own professional development in line with NMC requirements and Trust policies.
