Description
As a Graduate Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of defence projects. Working alongside experienced design and systems engineers, you will gain hands-on experience across a range of engineering disciplines, including, design specification, manufacturing support, systems design and testing, engineering design and modelling, as well as supply chain support. Depending on your skillset, your focus may be chemical, mechanical or electrical engineering. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer looking to develop a hands-on, strong technical foundation while contributing to projects of national importance before transitioning into a specialist engineering role.
This is a unique opportunity to begin your engineering career supporting the UK defence sector, with exposure to the full product lifecycle. You will work on cutting-edge technologies and gain valuable experience across engineering disciplines in a secure and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Support cross-functional project teams in the delivery of engineered defence systems.
* Work closely with design and systems engineers to ensure design intent is maintained through to manufacture and testing.
* Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BoMs) using the company’s MRP system, ensuring accuracy and traceability.
* Assist/prepare with documentation, technical reports, and data management in support of project milestones.
* Interpret and produce engineering drawings, engineering modelling and CAD models as required.
* Contribution and analysis of technical risks to recognise and identify potential hazards or failure modes through processes such as FMEA and HAZOPS/HAZID.
* Engage with internal manufacturing teams and suppliers to support build and assembly processes.
* Work with multi-discipline teams participating in engineering design reviews, risk assessments, and configuration control activities.
* Contribute including analysing data to support decision making for problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives across the design and product lifecycle.
* Use of calculations, CFD and FEA analysis to determine fluid and gas interaction, structural weaknesses and verification of mechanical design.
* Use of process simulation tools to analyse system performance and response.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential
* A degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or related Engineering discipline.
* Strong understanding of engineering principles and design processes.
* Knowledge of CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Siemens NX, or equivalent).
* Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings and technical specifications.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
* Good communication skills and ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams.
* A proactive, solution-focused approach with strong attention to detail.
Desirable
* Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems (e.g., SAP, IFS, or similar).
* Understanding of defence manufacturing, quality, and testing standards.
* Knowledge of systems engineering, configuration control, or requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS).
* Use of CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Siemens NX, or equivalent).
Other Requirements
* Candidates must have an existing right to live and work in the UK.
* Candidates must have passed UK security clearance to Security Check level or be able to obtain this level. This normally requires 5 years residence in the UK.
