From calibrating monitors to adjusting mechanical and chemical processes,\u00A0youâll\u00A0make sure everything runs smoothly.\u00A0Youâll\u00A0learn to record and review water quality results - checking pH, chlorine, aluminium, and phosphate levels - and spot anything that needs attention.\u00A0\n\nSafety comes first.\u00A0Youâll\u00A0be fully kitted out with\u00A0Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)\u00A0and trained to carry out risk assessments. Routine inspections of plants, reservoirs, and dams will be part of your day, along with following strict health and safety protocols.\u00A0\n\nThis is your chance to learn, grow, and play a key role in delivering safe, fresh water to communities across Scotland - while helping us set standards that go beyond\u00A0whatâs\u00A0expected.\u00A0 Your\u00A0journey with\u00A0us\u00A0\n\nModern Apprenticeships combine on-the-job learning, with the opportunity to complete\u00A0vocational qualifications.\u00A0Supported by our in-house Skills Academy team, each apprentice has both a day-to-day line manager, and a personal assessor who supports them through their qualification and ensures their training is of the highest standard.\u00A0\u00A0\n\nOver\u00A0three\u00A0years,\u00A0youâll\u00A0receive dedicated training to become a fully qualified\u00A0Water Treatment Operator, gaining the skills and confidence to make a real impact.\u00A0\u00A0\n\nHow to effectively treat high volumes of water to make it safe\u00A0\n\nHow to\u00A0monitor\u00A0assets like reservoirs and drainage systems\u00A0\n\nHow to collect and test water samples\u00A0\n\nHow to\u00A0monitor\u00A0and analyse readings from the meters and gauges on site and spot malfunctions\u00A0\n\nHow to use the software,\u00A0apps\u00A0and technology we use to\u00A0monitor\u00A0the water supply\u00A0\n\nHow to work in a way that keeps you and your colleagues safe and healthy.\u00A0\n\nA lot of your time will be spent outdoors. But in Scotland we all know that there is no such thing as\u00A0bad weather, just inappropriate clothing. So,\u00A0weâll\u00A0make sure\u00A0youâre\u00A0kitted out for whatever Mother Nature throws at us.\u00A0\n\nYouâll\u00A0be part of an expert, experienced team who will support you to develop your skills and knowledge while working towards a nationally recognised qualification. This is your chance to earn as you learn, working with industry-leading teams to help deliver services that are essential to the daily lives of the people of Scotland.\u00A0\n\nOnce\u00A0youâve\u00A0reached a certain point in your training,\u00A0youâll\u00A0be included in our Out-of-Hours\u00A0rota. That means you might occasionally be called into work outside your normal hours to investigate or fix a problem.\u00A0Youâll\u00A0earn some extra money each month for this, whether\u00A0youâre\u00A0called in or not.\u00A0\n\nWhatâs\u00A0in it for you?\u00A0\n\nYouâll\u00A0challenge and stretch yourself.\u00A0Weâre\u00A0here to help you make the most of your skills and abilities with first-class training, support, and a big investment in your development.\u00A0\n\nYou will qualify with a Water Industry SVQ at SCQF Level 6. From your\u00A02nd\u00A0year,\u00A0youâll\u00A0get the\u00A0option\u00A0to do an HNC\u00A0in Water Operations. And be supported through your qualification by trainers and assessors from our in-house Skills Academy.\u00A0\n\nEarn as you learn.\u00A0Youâll\u00A0start on\u00A0£24,352, with clear, scheduled pay increases as you reach key milestones throughout your training.\u00A0Youâll\u00A0also be eligible for an annual bonus and a great pension scheme.\u00A0\n\nJob security.\u00A0The vast majority of\u00A0our apprentices choose to stay with us after completing their programmes.\u00A0Many people even spend their entire careers with us! Some go on to become team leaders or managers, while others focus on honing their technical\u00A0expertise.\u00A0\n\nYouâll\u00A0be providing an essential service to Scotland and your local community, helping to protect our natural environment.\u00A0\n\nAnd the best bit?\u00A0Youâll\u00A0be working as part of a friendly, close-knit team that genuinely wants to see you succeed - and who make coming into work fun.\u00A0 What\u00A0youâll\u00A0need\u00A0\n\nYou need to be at least 17 years old by 1 August 2026.\u00A0\n\nA responsible attitude to learning and work is essential.\u00A0Youâll\u00A0be someone people can trust and rely on.\u00A0\n\nIdeally,\u00A0youâll\u00A0have five National 4 or 5s (or similar). English, Maths and Science are particularly helpful, but they\u00A0arenât\u00A0a dealbreaker.\u00A0\n\nA driving licence would be useful - especially in some of our more remote locations - but we know that lessons and tests are expensive. If you\u00A0havenât\u00A0had the chance to\u00A0pass your test, we can provide support to help you get your licence during your first year with us.\u00A0\n\nYouâll\u00A0also be based on\u00A0Mainland,\u00A0Shetland.\u00A0\n\nIn terms of requirements?\u00A0Thatâs\u00A0it.\u00A0\n\nBut\u00A0hereâs\u00A0the thing: We get\u00A0lots of applications for our apprentice roles each year.
