Description We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, and motivated individual to join our site in Yeovil as a Mechanical Design Engineer. The appointed individual will have experience in the Technical Validation (checking) of CAD drawings and 3D models to ensure they compliant to Honeywell and industry standards. They will also be able to support the development of concept designs including supporting analysis, with a keen awareness of manufacturing methodologies and a mind on cost. Additionally, the role will also require detail design work and processing of engineering changes. Working as part of the design team, the Design Engineer has the overall responsibility for the concept and detailed design of new products and assembly tooling, together with all drawings and associated project documentation. You will be working on complex aerospace engineering projects across a variety of remits including Environmental Control Systems (ECS) and Life Support Systems (LSS). Honeywell Honeywell Aerospace products and services are used on virtually every commercial, defense, and space aircraft. We build aircraft engines, cockpit and cabin electronics, wireless connectivity systems, mechanical components. Our hardware and software solutions help create more fuel-efficient aircraft, more direct and on-time flights and safer skies. Safer, More Fuel-Efficient Flying and Innovations for the Future of Aviation. Responsibilities Key responsibilities Review and validate CAD drawings and 3D models produced by the Design Team to ensure accuracy and compliance with specifications. Create detailed designs and layouts that meet customer requirements, contributing to effective product development proposals. Conduct design feasibility assessments through stress and performance calculations using various analysis methods, including finite element analysis. Apply 'Design for Six Sigma' principles throughout the design process, utilizing data-driven analysis to develop robust solutions. Complete and pre-check drawing packs and documentation, ensuring adherence to design standards and best practices. Work collaboratively with production engineering and planning, support engineering change requests, and adhere to project schedules and milestones in a multi-project environment. Qualifications Key skills and qualifications Degree in mechanical engineering or related field, with strong experience in mechanical design, preferably in aerospace or a regulated industry Minimum of 10 years of CAD experience, preferably in precision components, with proven expertise in technical validation of CAD drawings and 3D models. Change-oriented with a strong ability to develop innovative solutions in a collaborative team environment, while maintaining a results-focused approach. Solid understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), configuration control, and manufacturing techniques, including machining. Familiarity with Six Sigma and Lean methodologies is advantageous for contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. Strong grasp of generic engineering principles, thermodynamics, and the impact of material selection on design and functionality.
