Cambridge University Hospital Foundation Trust (CUH) is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate individual to join the new NHS Children and Young People’s Gender Service (East of England) in the role of Social Worker.

The Cass Review into gender services for children and young people recommends staff maintain a broad clinical perspective by working across related NHS services. This role encourages part‑time applications from staff already working in other NHS or related services, and for full‑time candidates we can agree a job plan that includes a mix of gender service activity and other clinical areas.
The service operates Monday‑Friday. Either full‑time or part‑time (minimum 3 days per week) are considered.
Main Duties of the job
Lead the provision of social work services within the Women and Children Service and the regional NHS Children and Young People Gender Service (East of England). Provide specialist assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes.
Develop the multi‑professional clinical team through joint working, consultation, training and service development. Deliver social work knowledge and skills to support individualized psychological care in partnership with young people and families.
Provide senior level support for research and audit activity in collaboration with other professional groups and providers, increasing the evidence base and supporting good practice sharing.
Lead social work placement and research opportunities for trainee social workers as requested.
Provide clinical supervision and training for social workers and other staff as requested by the Head of Psychological Health Services.
Work with the Head of Psychological Health Services to develop and implement service developments, policies, protocols and guidelines for the psychological services provided to this population.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Social Worker
* Evidence of professional and managerial development meeting regulatory requirements
* Post‑graduate qualification to Master Level Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant area of practice
* Training qualification
* Additional training in safeguarding, management or a specialised therapeutic area relevant to CYP with gender diversity, or an equivalent portfolio
* Training course in supervision
Experience
* Post‑qualification experience as a specialist social worker with young people or adults who have a physical health condition
* Experience providing psychosocial consultation, case management supervision and training to multiprofessional and multi‑agency teams
* Experience undertaking consultation and service development in a multi‑disciplinary physical health setting
* Formal teaching or presentation sessions to health and other professionals
Knowledge
* Understanding of acute and long‑term conditions and disability implications for young people and adults
* Understanding of the social worker’s role within multi‑professional health teams
* Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and guidance, consent, confidentiality and standards of psychological care within NICE and other guidance
* Experience in a clinical service relevant to CYP with gender diversity
* Knowledge of specialised social work assessment and intervention for CYP with gender diversity
* Knowledge of the evidence base for treatment of common mental health difficulties in CYP with gender diversity
* Experience of leading others including delegated line management
Skills
* Advanced communication skills for providing and receiving complex and sensitive information to and from young people and adults in culturally appropriate ways
* Ability to assess psychosocial needs using standardized measures and assessments
* Ability to generate systemic and individual psychosocial formulations and interventions applying psychological theories and models
* Ability to access, record and manage information in medical and psychology notes, databases and electronic records
* Ability to prioritise and manage time for clinical work and professional activities effectively and safely
* Able to travel to regional clinics, meetings and home visits as required
* Skillful and sensitive communication with clients, carers and colleagues, overcoming barriers and hostility to information
* Well‑developed IT skills for entry and analysis of research data
* Ability to identify and employ clinical governance mechanisms
* Ability to manage emotionally stressful situations such as working with victims of abuse or trauma or with people who engage in severe self‑harm or aggressive behaviour
* Skills in teaching and training other professional groups
