Overview
An opportunity has arisen for a full‑time (37.5 hours a week) exercise instructor to join the therapies team at St. Ann’s Hospital, a busy mental health inpatient unit. The post holder will work closely with physiotherapy, occupational therapy and ward teams and will be managed by the therapies manager, an occupational therapist. Ongoing professional development is a core part of this role, with support to promote best practice in exercise provision for our service users.
Responsibilities
* Deliver an inclusive and responsive exercise service with flexibility to meet the needs and capitalise on the strengths of the people in the hospital.
* Provide fitness instruction and ensure safe practice in both the hospital working environment and the gym.
* Induct staff to the gym so they can supervise patients with the fitness programmes devised by the exercise instructor.
* Respond to referrals for service users, induct them to the gym, provide fitness programmes and monitor progress.
* Motivate people with compassion to engage in exercise to support their physical and mental health.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Successfully completed Level 3 Personal Trainer and Level 3 Exercise Referral training.
* Completion of a Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression course – this is a condition of employment and must be achieved before commencing work.
* Employment requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check; the Trust will cover the cost. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service may present a valid DBS certificate instead of receiving a new check.
