We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Principal Construction Manager (Operations) to join our dynamic NMC North East Account. Our NMC NE account is working in partnership with Transport Scotland Northeast since August 2022, with an increased focus on supporting the creation of sustainable futures for communities, together we will achieve net zero targets and improve the customer experience. Covering 593Km of network, we provide routine highways, bridges and structure maintenance as well as designing and managing road safety schemes. By ensuring our roads and highways are well-maintained through all-weather seasons and traffic incidents, we aim to create well-functioning, safe spaces which minimise disruption, keep people moving and support thriving communities. The Principal Construction Manager (Operations) will be responsible for all day-to-day operational services activities on the account covering maintenance and winter services. Your main duties will be: Assist the operating company representative in ensuring the execution of all operations in line with the contract requirements. Maintain compliance at all times with the Operating Company’s Management System. Guarantee the successful delivery of maintenance and Winter Service activities on the Trunk Road network. Identify potential schemes for the account. Collaborate with the Core Management Team and other key staff members to ensure all maintenance and winter service activities are carried out to minimise congestion for road users. Where appropriate, coordinate works to enable maintenance activities to be conducted within the boundaries of a scheme, reducing the number of traffic management interventions on the Trunk Road network. Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all contract personnel involved in operations. Minimise the environmental impacts of operations. Candidate Requirements: Be able to take and be accountable for decisions within the contract and understand commercial contracts Must have demonstrable experience working on a Trunk Road Maintenance contract or successfully fulfilled a similar role. You must have a clear understanding of the industry and market You will have experience in senior leadership who possesses a solid grasp of highway maintenance standards, regulations, and industry best practices. A strong dedication to safety and sustainability is a must-have trait for this role. Previous experience managing substantial budgets and navigating complex contracts within highways. Have previous experience and ability to manage, develop and motivate teams Ideally, you will have an academic qualification in Civil Engineering at degree level. However, we would also consider candidates with an HND or equivalent qualifications, and/or membership of an engineering institute.
