Job Summary
We are recruiting to this exciting vacancy for the Research Governance Manager at Stockport Foundation Trust. Working as the line manager for the RD&I team, the post holder will bring significant expertise in research and development trials and regulation and governance to be the Trust subject expert. Working in collaboration with the team at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care Foundation Trust, the post holder will lead and develop a comprehensive, high‑quality research, development and innovation service at the Trust.
Main Duties of the Job
The post holder will take strategic and operational leadership responsibility for research governance, quality assurance and regulatory compliance across the Trust's Research, Development and Innovation portfolio, working jointly with Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care Trust where appropriate.
They will ensure the delivery of a high quality, compliant and inspection‑ready research governance service, enabling safe, ethical and effective research activity while supporting growth, sustainability, impact and alignment with national and regional priorities.
Acting as the Trust's subject matter expert for research governance and regulation, the post holder will lead the continuous development of research systems, workforce capability and quality improvement, ensuring the Trust remains responsive to evolving legislation, government priorities and NHS transformation agendas (e.g. digital transformation, community‑based research and regional collaboration).

Education and qualifications
Essential
* Relevant degree (clinical, scientific, health, management or equivalent) OR equivalent demonstrable experience at senior operational level
* Evidence of significant postgraduate learning and/or Masters level working
* Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to research governance, regulation or management
Desirable
* Postgraduate qualification in research, clinical trials, governance or management
Knowledge
Essential
* Expert knowledge of research governance, quality assurance and regulatory compliance within health or clinical research
* In‑depth working knowledge of applicable legislation and guidance including: UK Policy Framework; ICH‑GCP; GCLP; Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations; Medical Devices Regulations
* Knowledge of MHRA inspection processes and regulatory expectations
* Knowledge of NHS research systems, funding flows and national research structures (e.g. NIHR, RRDN)
Experience

* Significant senior experience in NHS R&D / clinical research governance or equivalent regulated research environment
* Proven experience of leading research governance, quality assurance or regulatory functions
* Experience of managing and developing staff, including handling complex HR matters (capability, grievance, disciplinary, sickness)
* Experience of financial oversight of research income and expenditure, including cost attribution and recovery
* Experience of working with external funders, sponsors, universities and partner organisations
* Experience of inspection preparation and regulatory interaction

* Experience of joint working across organisations or systems

* Ability to provide highly specialist advice on complex regulatory and governance matters
* Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret and present complex performance and risk data
* Advanced IT skills including use of research portfolio management and reporting systems
