Job Title: Design Manager
Reporting to: BUGM
Business Unit: Renewables Scotland
Role Purpose
The Design Manager is required by the Omexom Scotland Renewables Business Unit working closely with the Business Unit General Manager (BUGM), Bid Manager, Project Managers, Site Supervisors, Design Engineers, and other members of the wider Omexom business to manage and coordinate all of the design-related matters on our projects, helping to keep work running smoothly and on time.
1. Be involved and liaise with the BUGM, PM, and Bid Manager at tender stage to ensure the tender submissions are robust and fit for purpose from a design point of view, adding engineering value as required.
2. Managing the design processes involved in a construction project, including ensuring that drawings are ready on time, reviewing designs when appropriate, and making them available to the appropriate people.
3. Promote Omexom within the industry to assist with developing the business and employees and attract likeminded people that share our values to join our expanding team.
4. The DM possesses a high level of skill and understanding of the design delivery process and is able to perform all parts of the task satisfactorily and make judgements and decisions correctly in a variety of situations.
5. Be commercially and financially aware to ensure that all scope change is managed efficiently across the project and work closely with Project Managers to manage project costs and income, ensuring commercial targets are met.
6. Encourage engineering innovation and value engineering during the design and construction process to reduce site-based construction activity with a particular emphasis on sustainability.
7. The DM is the custodian of change, through a change register, and will manage any site changes, early warning notifications (EWN), notification of compensation events (nCE), and will monitor what Project Management Instructions (PMI) are required or instigated, ensuring the correct notifications and provisions according to the contract are made.
8. Technical Queries (TQ’s) and Requests For Information (RFI’s) will be managed by the DM, maintaining a register of these queries.
9. Liaise with the Principal Designer to ensure relevant communications take place around permanent and temporary works.

11. Lead and ensure the management of the overall design programme, design scope deliverables, and report progress and delays accurately for each scheme.
12. Produce design programme in collaboration with the design teams and OEMs, meeting Client design deliverables.
13. Overall coordination of tenders, estimates, and technical responses.
14. Ensure delivery of their discipline’s scope of work for each project on time and on budget, in compliance with customer requirements, quality standards, and safety by design principles, following the principles of prevention requirements of the 2015 CDM Regulations.
15. Work with the design team to drive ‘smarter working’ practice.
16. Assess, mitigate, and manage risks connected with design.
17. Promote safety, health, and environmental awareness of all design staff (principles of prevention).
18. Manage and create a culture of innovation and collaboration among the design team.
19. Scope and technical change management across the projects.
20. Monthly project reporting.
21. Seek opportunities to deliver safer, better, faster, and more profitably.
22. Ensure production and maintenance of key project documents.
23. Ensure compliance with Omexom governance processes and customer requirements.
24. Review method statements / risk assessments ensuring compliance with design documents.
25. Understanding of NEC and other relevant contract types.
26. Chair design review meetings and liaise with clients, designers, and other related third parties on design-related matters.
27. Establish and maintain effective communication between teams involved in design work throughout the project.

Person Specification
The Design Manager or Design and Build Manager would be a specialist project manager who oversees design-related matters on construction projects and helps ensure that the multi-disciplinary teams involved in the project work together smoothly and that everything is delivered on time and within budget.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
35. 8+ years of experience in a related role and relevant degree and qualifications (Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management or similar)
36. Proven ability to deliver Design projects
37. A high level of attention to detail
38. A strong belief in developing people and building a team
39. Design delivery and management of design experience
40. Supporting teams to deliver programs safely, on time, on budget, and to a high quality
41. Interfacing with internal and external stakeholders
42. Good technical grounding, experience, and engineering delivery
43. Project leadership at a management level, delivering a range of projects from standard to complex
44. Experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams
45. Experience in managing multi-cultural teams
46. Degree qualified in a relevant Engineering discipline or Project Management / Construction Management or similar

47. Experience working to renewable or energy transmission and distribution specifications, processes, and procedures
48. Experience of working in the UK Energy sector or within highly regulated industries
