Managing Estimator – Regional Civils (Central & South East)
We’re looking for an experienced Managing Estimator to join our Regional Civils team at Balfour Beatty, based from our Birmingham office and supporting projects across the Central and South East regions. The role offers remote working with occasional visits to London.
Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll be at the heart of our work‑winning activity, leading estimating teams on a wide range of civils and infrastructure opportunities. You’ll work closely with colleagues across pre‑construction, commercial and delivery to develop well‑considered, competitive solutions that set projects up for success from the very start.
What you’ll be doing
Has responsibility to the Regional Civils division for the estimating activities. Includes the governance as well as business change required to maintain procedure, skills and capability. Oversees all parts of the business lifecycle to Gate 4. To lead the estimating team in producing competitive, thorough, well‑researched estimates and maintaining files/records as appropriate. To provide an influential pre and post contract estimating management service to meet profit, quality and service objectives through communication and understanding customer needs whilst providing effective leadership to the team.
Strategic Overview
* Identify and implement procedural changes to estimating process and systems
* Ensure Balfour Beatty’s Code of Conduct is thoroughly understood, adhered to and promoted across the business to ensure safe, compliant and consistent working practices
* Ensure collaboration and proactively contribute to teamwork and cross‑functional working
Line Management of Estimating Team
* Functional line management of regional estimators (R12 approvals etc)
* Carry out monthly 1-2‑1 meetings with regional estimators
* Set objectives and undertake PDRs for regional estimators
* Management of COMAEA profiles of regional estimators
* Identify training requirements for estimating team
* Cascade directives, communications, safety briefings, general updates and procedural changes to regional estimators
* Line management of Graduates who are in placement within estimating, including setting of objectives and monitoring
* Encourage estimating team to contribute to Yammer and ‘My Contribution’
Who we’re looking for
We’re keen to hear from candidates who can bring strong civils estimating expertise and confident team leadership. Ideally, you’ll have experience across a range of civil engineering projects such as new and existing road works, structures and bridges, public realm, structural concrete, coastal defence, and elements of off‑line rail‑related infrastructure.
