Job overview

We are recruiting for a Clinical Nurse Specialist-IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

This role requires an enthusiastic nurse with a sound knowledge of gastroenterology nursing and a commitment to provide best patient care. Knowledge and understanding of the types Inflammatory Bowel Disease and its symptoms is essential.

The post holder will be expected to provide support and advice to our large cohort of IBD patients both face to face and over the telephone. You will work autonomously leading and managing a case load of patients providing diagnosis, care planning, treatment, follow-up and continuity of care. The role encompasses the four pillars of advanced practice, clinical practice and leadership, facilitation of education/learning and evidence research and development.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be accountable for the line management of nursing staff, enabling the department to provide the highest standards of care.

Promote high standards of professional practice and the delivery of quality care within the corporate policies, protocols and guidelines.

Provide effective leadership and work seamlessly across the MDT, communicating complex patient needs.

Managing the infusion service and understanding the role of advanced therapies both as homecare and in-patient.

Demonstrate leadership attributes by undertaking nurse-led clinics, service development, attending management meetings, liaising with the wider teams and providing support for other members of the team.

To work autonomously and be a role model to others, to work within competence and show eagerness to develop the service by taking part in audits, writing policies and attending/presenting at IBD meetings.

Qualification/Training


Essential criteria

* Registered nurse on part 1 of the NMC register
* Relevant clinical post registration education
* Relevant degree or working towards Degree
* IBD module/evidence of advanced practice


Previous Experience


Essential criteria

* Registered Nurse with proven recent experience at Band 6
* Uses evidence based/research practice to support care delivery
* Evidence of an understanding of IBD management and care


Desirable criteria

* Involvement in audit/research and willingness to present findings at meetings and conferences


Skills


Essential criteria

* Rationalising the modalities of investigations, informing the clinical assessment
* Completing and interpreting disease activity scores (for example, HBI, Mayo score, CDAI)
* Interprets blood tests, including inflammatory markers and faecal calprotectin
* Uses highly developed communication skills and actively listens to and understands the patient’s concerns, experiences and opinions. This includes the use of verbal and nonverbal communication skills, along with active listening and reflection.


Knowledge


Essential criteria

* Proactively develops relationships within the IBD team and with patients/carers, to encourage productive working
* Offer expert advice, both to the IBD team and to others through direct and indirect patient care.


Desirable criteria

* Contributes to quality improvement and service development
* Participates in, and contributes to, regular clinical supervision of team members.
