Community Staff Nurse Learning and Disability

To support the provision of a community service to individuals with a learning disability in a defined area of Lancashire, in order that health care needs are met and contractual agreements fulfilled. A registered learning disability nurse, with knowledge of health policy and legislation applicable to people with a learning disability and/or Autism. Adaptability, good communication skills and self-motivation are essential, alongside skills in working with people who have complex health needs, challenging behaviour and/or Autism, including demonstration that practice is evidence based and innovative.

The post holder will be responsible for a defined caseload alongside supervision of junior members of staff.


Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Adult's Community Learning Disability Service based in Fylde and Wyre, for a Community Learning Disability Band 5 Nurse. The Learning Disability Service strives to provide forward thinking high quality services, working in partnership with other agencies. In addition to working with people with Learning Disabilities and their families/carers we have a strong commitment to health promotion through service development and training initiatives. We are committed to helping our staff-develop and you will be part of an enthusiastic and experienced team.

The post holder will be an experienced Learning Disability Nurse with knowledge and skills in supporting people with a Learning Disability with complex health needs, as well as the provision of positive behavioural support. Adaptability, good communication skills and self-motivation are essential to the role. You will also need to be able to demonstrate that your practice is evidence based and innovative.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Registered Learning Disability Nurse
* Current NMC Registration.


Knowledge

* Knowledge of contemporary learning disability health policy
* Demonstrates reflective practice.
* Knowledge of legal frameworks applicable to the learning disabled population


Experience

* Ability to support people who have a learning disability and/or Autism on an individual and group basis.


Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
