Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Sister/Charge Nurse to join Medical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC). SDEC remains at the forefront of the NHS Urgent and Emergency Care Plan for 2025/26, focusing on treating and discharging patients on the same day to reduce hospital admissions. The unit now assesses 40-50 patients per day and works with Acute Medicine, Respiratory Medicine, Infectious Disease, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Stroke, and Neurology. The post holder will provide daily clinical and managerial nursing/midwifery leadership for a defined clinical area and ensure standards of care are upheld.

Responsibilities
* Provide daily clinical and managerial nursing/midwifery leadership for a defined clinical area; ensure standards of care are upheld at all times.
* Uphold Trust values and professional standards; be visible and accessible to patients, families, and staff to provide information and support.
* Take responsibility for the timely, effective and safe discharge of patients; lead on planning and ensure individual plans meet patient/family needs.
* Deliver and monitor nutritional and fluid standards, including protected meal times, within the designated area.
* Review treatment effectiveness and modify as necessary, reporting to senior colleagues/medical staff as required.
* Ensure safe storage and administration of intravenous and oral drugs/fluids in line with Trust policies.
* Undertake extended/advanced clinical skills as appropriate and supervise others; uphold privacy and dignity standards.
* Respect individuals’ dignity and beliefs and involve patients in shared decision-making, including safeguarding considerations.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Extensive post-registration experience within an acute setting.
* Leadership experience and teaching/supervision experience.
* Experience in leading change and/or quality improvement.
* Desirable: SDEC experience and relevant post-registration courses.
Education, Training and Development
* Manage training and development for staff in the designated area; support personal development plans and mandatory training.
* Support junior staff development and contribute to an educational environment for learners and students.
Service Improvement/Research and Development
* Lead delivery of the productive ward programme for the designated area and use activity data to inform future projects.
* Support local service programmes and promote quality indicators and best practice.
