Senior Software Engineer (C#, SQL) Incident Support Team Up to £70,000 Generous On-Call Allowance Remote-First | UK-Based | Full-Time | Permanent Are you a hands-on software engineer with a knack for solving complex problems and a passion for system reliability? Were looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Incident Support) to join a collaborative, forward-thinking engineering team that powers critical technology in the utilities space. Youll play a vital role in incident management, using your technical skills to resolve, prevent, and learn from system issueswhile also contributing clean, high-quality code as part of a modern Agile squad. What Youll Be Doing Contribute to the design, development, and refinement of features and services using C#, SQL, JavaScript, and React. Support your team with mentoring, peer reviews, and continuous technical improvement. Investigate and resolve incidents, analysing logs, data, and reports from the service desk. Work closely with engineering leadership and product owners to prioritise incidents and drive preventative measures. Take ownership of observability strategiesmonitoring standards, alerting practices, and visibility improvements. Engage in Agile ceremonies and collaborate across disciplines to support efficient delivery and operational excellence. Why This Role Stands Out No immediate on-call: You wont join the on-call rota right away. Youll be given time to settle in, learn the systems, and contribute meaningfully before taking on out-of-hours responsibilities. Realistic expectations: The incident volume in this area is low, and when on-call does begin, its shared fairly across a team of experienced engineers. On-Call Allowance (Once Live) £200 monthly retainer, fixed £60 per incident plus up to x2 your hourly rate to deal with any incidents. Time-critical response expectations apply when on call: respond to alerts within SLAs, be contactable by phone, and be able to access your work laptop within 30 minutes. What Youll Bring Strong experience in incident management and technical support alongside software delivery. Solid knowledge of C#, SQL, JavaScript, and React. A proactive mindset with the ability to triage and troubleshoot real-time issues. Strong understanding of Agile delivery, DevOps culture, and continuous improvement.
