We are seeking a detail-oriented and commercially aware Product Technologist to oversee the development, compliance, and quality of licensed bedding and ceramics products for retailers similar too Primark. This role bridges design, sourcing, and manufacturing to ensure all products meet brand standards, regulatory requirements, and Primark’s technical expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the end-to-end technical development of bedding and ceramic product ranges, from concept through to bulk production.
Ensure all licensed products meet Primark’s technical, safety, and quality standards, as well as relevant UK/EU regulations.
Review and approve product specifications, including materials, construction, finishes, and packaging.
Work closely with licensors to ensure brand guidelines and approvals are met at every stage.
Liaise with suppliers and factories to manage sampling, testing, and production timelines.
Assess and approve lab dips, strike-offs, and pre-production samples.
Coordinate and review product testing (e.g. flammability, durability, food safety for ceramics), ensuring compliance with applicable standards.
Identify and mitigate product risks, proposing solutions where needed.
Support cost engineering by balancing product integrity with target price points.
Maintain accurate technical documentation, including specifications, risk assessments, and compliance records.
Collaborate with internal teams including design, buying, and sourcing to deliver commercially successful products.
Key Requirements
Proven experience as a Product Technologist, ideally within home textiles (bedding) and/or ceramics.
Strong knowledge of UK/EU regulations, including textile compliance, REACH, and food contact materials legislation.
Experience working with licensed products and understanding of licensor approval processes
Familiarity with Primark systems, standards, or ways of working is highly desirable.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes for textiles and ceramics.
Experience managing supplier relationships, particularly with overseas factories.
Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Confident communicator, able to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders.
Desirable Skills
Experience with sustainability standards and certifications
Knowledge of ethical sourcing and audit requirements.
Ability to interpret and analyse test reports and technical data.
