Senior Ecologist / Environmental Consultant - Bournemouth – Competitive Salary - Hybrid with site travel as required + Benefits
The Job:
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a skilled and experienced Senior Ecologist / Environmental Consultant to join a growing, progressive environmental consultancy. This varied and rewarding role will support a broad range of ecology and environmental projects, spanning residential, commercial, renewable energy, infrastructure, and land management sectors.
This is a hands-on, field and office-based role combining ecological survey delivery, technical reporting, junior team mentoring, and client liaison. The successful candidate will play a key part in ensuring timely, high-quality project delivery and client satisfaction while contributing to the consultancy’s continued growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and deliver ecological fieldwork and protected species surveys
- Produce technical reports including habitat surveys, Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), and mitigation plans
- Manage client relationships, providing regular updates on project progress, budgets, and timelines
- Mentor and provide technical support to junior team members
- Contribute to bid preparation and business development activity
- Oversee the quality and consistency of technical report outputs
- Support with ecological impact assessments and regulatory submissions where required
The Candidate:
- Degree-qualified (or equivalent) in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
- Strong professional experience in ecological survey work and protected species assessments
- Holder of Natural England survey licences for at least two protected species
- Membership of CIEEM (or working towards) essential
- Sound understanding of UK ecological legislation, policy, and survey best practice
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A proactive, team-focused approach with good organisational abilities
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility for occasional travel and overnight stays
