We are seeking a Manager to lead our Economic Crime Unit (ECU), part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will head a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals.
Responsibilities
* Be the strategic lead for managing financial investigations and ensure compliance with the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Lead two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer; provide strong leadership, develop your team, and manage performance and work delivery.
* Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC); influence at senior levels to align Environment Agency priorities with external enforcement.
* Support the wider organisation in improving practices and increasing understanding of POCA; share lessons learned and contribute to changes in technical documentation.
Team and Environment
The ECU comprises two teams—the Asset Denial Team and the Money Laundering Investigations Team—consisting of Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers, and Crime Analysts. The unit is nationally dispersed and handles serious and complex criminality involving organised networks.
Experience/Skills Required
* Exceptional leadership skills, preferably with experience leading a dispersed team.
* Strong understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act.
* Experience in:
o Working in the law enforcement sector and understanding the National Intelligence Model
o Effective communication, delivering feedback, managing performance, and building relationships with external stakeholders
o Working under pressure and prioritising a varied workload
o Identifying areas for improvement and leading changes to working practices
o Developing and enhancing the capability of a team and individuals

This is a hybrid role; you’ll work from home and your nearest office with travel across the country for meetings and operational duties. Incident response is a central part of our work and you may be required to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support (additional payment may apply). Training and workplace adjustments are available to support you. Interviews are scheduled for w/c 3 November 2025.
