Overview
To join the multi-disciplinary CAMH Service in the delivery of mental health care to children and young people and their families, including involvement in the multi-disciplinary assessment pathways. Post holder will provide specialist psychological and/or mental health input to children and young people and their families. The post holder will provide specialist psychological assessment and therapy. Experience conducting specialist assessments for neurodevelopmental concerns (e.g. ASD and ADHD) is desirable. They will also offer advice and consultation on clients\' psychological care to colleagues from all disciplines and to individuals external to CAMHS working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team\'s policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
* Provide specialist psychological assessment and therapy for children, young people and families.
* Conduct generic and specialist psychological and neuropsychological assessments based on the interpretation and integration of complex data from sources including tests (e.g., WISC-V, ADOS-2, 3Di), self-report measures, rating scales, observations and semi-structured interviews with clients and families.
* Formulate and implement plans for formal psychological treatment and/or management of emotional and behavioural disorders, using evidence-based methods across the full range of care settings.
* Offer advice and consultation on clients\' psychological care to colleagues from all disciplines and to external partners, operating autonomously within professional guidelines and service policies.
* Support psychological assessment and therapy provided by other professionals and may supervise other staff as required.
* Utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development, and research within the service\'s areas; contribute to governance and professional accountability for psychological practice.
* Participate in the multi-disciplinary CAMHS service as a member within clinical governance structures and protocols.
* Undertake generic and specialist assessments of children and families referred to the service, integrating data from diverse sources to support care planning.
* Lead on one area within CAMHS additional practice areas (Participation, SEND, IPC, Health and Safety, Clinical work discussions, etc.).
* Maintain travel as required within the catchment area and possibly to wider parts of the service or trust, including community-based work (e.g., schools).
* Work within the service hours (9:00–17:00, Monday to Friday) with some flexibility for extended hours to meet service needs.
Working for our organisation
The Brent CAMH service is based at Monks Park Clinic, Wembley. The team is a large multi-disciplinary group providing accessible, flexible and responsive local service for children, using the range of therapeutic interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, systemic and family therapy, Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy, Psychoeducation, DBT groups, multi-family work and Positive Behaviour Support. Brent CAMHS comprises four main sub-teams: Emotional Disorders Team; Neurodevelopmental Team; Enhanced Treatment Team; and Learning Disabilities (LD-CAMHS). The post holder may travel to other parts of the catchment area and/or wider service and trust as necessary, including community-based work in schools. The service operates Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:00 with some flexibility to work extended hours to meet service needs.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To evaluate and decide on treatment options considering theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors related to historical, environmental and developmental processes shaping the client, family or group. The post holder will provide care to clients, liaising with family members and others involved in care, including CAMHS colleagues, frontline workers in health, education, Social Services, inpatient services and the voluntary sector. You will exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment and treatment of clients managed by psychologically based standard care plans. You will provide specialist psychological and/or mental health advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals, contributing to clients\' formulation, diagnosis and treatment plans.
