Director of Oxford Genetics Laboratories
This is a rare & exciting opportunity for a dynamic, ambitious & proactive individual to advance their career as the Director of the Oxford Genetics Laboratories. The successful candidate will lead a department of approximately staff, delivering a comprehensive range of genomic investigations across core & specialist rare disease & cancer.
As Director, you will lead the senior management team holding overall responsibility for the operation, development & strategic direction of the department. In addition, you will play a key role in shaping the evolving genomic testing landscape including contributing to the C&S Genomic Medicine Service.
The successful candidate will possess strong clinical & scientific expertise in genomics, with significant experience in either rare disease or cancer, coupled with the ability & ambition to lead the department across both domains. You will have substantial experience at Consultant Clinical Scientist level having led one or more scientific teams & contributing to wider departmental functions, such as Education & Training, Health & Safety, Information Governance or Quality Assurance.
You will possess excellent communication, influencing & leadership skills enabling you to manage people & complex situations effectively, & to advise senior management & the Trust Board on genomics-related matters.
HCPC registration in Genetics & possession of FRCPath are essential requirements.
Main duties of the jobTo be the Consultant Director of the Oxford Genetics Laboratories for the OUHFT with ultimate responsibility for the overall operation and administration of the laboratories.
To provide clinical, strategic and managerial leadership for the services and personnel within the laboratories.
To advise senior management and Trust Board on relevant issues in relation to genomics, healthcare science professionals issues and diagnostics.
To act in a consultant capacity providing clinical liaison and a high level of scientific knowledge, skill and expertise.
You will have a proven track record in innovation and the ability to present ideas for service development which are aligned to local and national priorities. You will provide excellent clinical advice to a wide range of health professionals, be able to develop effective professional networks and collaborations and represent the service at regional and national levels. You will seek and undertake professional leadership roles as appropriate.
