Conveyor Belting Fabricator / Conveyor Belting Fitter (Dual Role)
Location
Workshop-based with regular site work as part of the Site Service Team
Job Purpose
To manufacture, prepare, install, repair, and maintain conveyor belting systems. The role is predominantly workshop-based, focusing on fabrication and belt preparation, while also supporting on‑site installation, breakdown response, and maintenance activities as part of the site service team.
Key Responsibilities
Workshop-Based Fabrication (Primary Focus)
* Fabricate and prepare conveyor belts to specification, including:
o Hot and cold vulcanised splicing
o Fastener fitting
o Rubber lagging and belt covering.
* Accurately cut, square, and assemble belts using workshop machinery and hand tools.
* Read and interpret job cards, drawings, and technical specifications.
* Maintain exacting standards of workmanship, quality control, and housekeeping within the workshop.
* Ensure belts are prepared efficiently to meet customer and operational deadlines.
* Conduct routine maintenance and basic fault‑finding on workshop equipment.
Site Installation & Service Support
* Work as part of the site service team to:
o Install and commission conveyor belts on customer sites.
o Conduct belt replacements, repairs, and tracking.
o Respond to breakdowns and emergency callouts.
* Adhere strictly to site‑specific rules, permits, and safety procedures.
* Carry out work safely in industrial environments, often under time constraints.
On‑Call & Weekend Cover
* Participate in the on‑call rota, currently one week in every four, to support reactive breakdowns and urgent customer requirements.
* Provide weekend cover on a rota basis, currently one in every four weekends.
* Be flexible to respond to emergency callouts during on‑call and weekend periods, in line with company procedures and agreed terms.
Health, Safety & Compliance
* Promote and comply with all company and customer health & safety policies.
* Use PPE correctly and ensure tools and equipment are safe and fit for purpose.
* Participate in toolbox talks, risk assessments, and method statements (RAMS).
* Report hazards, near misses, and incidents promptly.
General Duties
* Maintain accurate job records and service reports.
* Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and customers.
* Support continuous improvement within the workshop and site teams.
* Undertake training to maintain and improve skills.
Skills & Experience
Essential
* Experience in conveyor belting fabrication and fitting.
* Competent in hot and/or cold splicing techniques.
* Confident using hand tools and workshop machinery.
* Strong understanding of health & safety in industrial environments.
* Flexible approach to work, including on‑call duties, weekend cover, and site travel.
* Team player with a proactive, reliable work ethic.
Desirable
* Mechanical or engineering background.
* CSCS, MPQC, CCNSG, or similar safety certification.
* Experience working in quarries, recycling, aggregates, or heavy industry.
* Full UK driving licence.

Working Pattern
* Predominantly workshop based day working
* Site work as required.
* Participation in a 1-in-4 on‑call rota and 1-in-4 weekend cover rota, with additional overtime as business needs dictate.
