We are seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Tree Inspector to support the proactive management of trees across our highway network, with a particular focus on identifying and assessing Ash Dieback. This role is essential in protecting public safety, supporting sustainable tree management, and ensuring compliance with environmental and legal requirements. You will play a key part in monitoring tree health, advising internal teams, and contributing to long term resilience and biodiversity initiatives.
Job Description
As a Tree Inspector, you will carry out detailed inspections across highways, open spaces, and other designated areas. You will identify the presence and progression of Ash Dieback, make evidence based recommendations, and ensure that all associated inspections, actions, and records are accurately maintained.
The role involves working closely with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders to uphold high standards of safety, environmental compliance, and quality. You will also support action planning, oversee works on site, and contribute to broader sustainability and climate resilience strategies.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out detailed tree inspections across the highway network and other areas of responsibility.
* Identify, assess, and record Ash Dieback, providing evidence based recommendations for management.
* Maintain accurate digital records of inspections, risk assessments, and tree management actions.
* Provide professional advice on tree health, safety, and management to internal teams and stakeholders.
* Support the development and implementation of Ash Dieback action plans and replanting strategies.
* Liaise with contractors and oversee works to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
* Contribute to biodiversity and climate resilience initiatives through proactive tree management.
* Ensure all work complies with relevant health and safety regulations, legislation, and industry best practice.
Essential Skills and Requirements
* Recognised qualification in Arboriculture or demonstrable experience in tree inspection, especially relating to Ash Dieback.
* Knowledge of tree risk assessment methodologies such as QTRA, THREATS, or VALID.
* Strong understanding of current legislation, standards, and best practice in arboriculture.
* Ability to use GIS and digital data capture tools.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Full UK driving licence.
* Professional membership of the Arboricultural Association or the Institute of Chartered Foresters.
* Experience working within highways, local authority, or large infrastructure environments.
* Chainsaw and aerial tree work qualifications (NPTC or equivalent) are advantageous but not essential.
* Good understanding of wider biosecurity risks and pest or disease management strategies.
