As an Assistant Asset Engineer in the Assessment team, the role is suited for a Civil/Structural Engineer with some post-academic experience aiming to develop a career with Network Rail. The position involves managing a portfolio of approximately 6,300 assessable assets in the Eastern Region.
The main responsibilities include supporting the assessment team in managing the capabilities of various structures and buildings. This involves generating work banks, reviewing assessments, conducting risk assessments, scoping work items, and following up on actions.
About the role (External)
Key Accountabilities –
1. Support the application of asset management processes to meet financial and output targets.
2. Schedule examinations, inspections, monitoring, and assessment of assets; evaluate reports and implement mitigation measures if management actions are deferred.
3. Specify and prioritize actions to address defects and issues raised in reports, including developing work plans and managing the development and handover of work items.
4. Perform engineering analysis and risk assessments to support asset management, including business case development and whole-life cost analysis.
5. Monitor asset condition data and failure precursors to inform maintenance, strengthening, risk mitigation, and renewal plans.
6. Support the development of enhancement schemes and coordinate with network capability programs.
7. Determine mitigation actions to reduce the impact of adverse weather on assets.
8. Maintain asset data within company systems.
9. Provide engineering support and participate in incident investigations.
10. Review proposals from other disciplines or external organizations to identify synergies or conflicts.
11. Monitor project developments, ensuring renewal requirements are met, and support design approvals and certifications.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
* HNC/HND or equivalent in Civil/Structural Engineering.
* Significant experience in relevant Civil/Structural engineering discipline.
* Incorporated Engineer status.
* Knowledge of engineering policies and standards.
* Knowledge of structural assessment of bridges and structures.
* Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
* Understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques.
