JOB TITLE: Software Engineer
LOCATION: Edinburgh
HOURS: Full-time
WORKING PATTERN: Hybrid, minimum 40% in the office

Pay Range: £47,790 - £53,100

About this opportunity


We're looking to recruit a Software Engineer to work within thePayments Services Platformin Edinburgh. Specifically, to support ourInstant Payments products and working on some of the mostcutting edgedevelopment work happening across the Bank.You will be helping to build,maintainand enhance our Faster Payments Gateway which process a high volume of all transactions across the UK.

Whatyou’llneed…..

1. Understanding of application development and familiarity with technologies such as Java (ideally Java 17), Spring Boot, Maven, Kafka (including Kafka Streams), RESTful APIs, and web services.

2. Knowledge of the software development lifecycle, preferably within an Agile environment, with some exposure through academic projects, internships, or personal work.

3. Knowledge of development best practices and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) concepts, with familiarity with tools like Jenkins or similar.

4. Ability to write simple to complex, maintainablecode and a willingness to learn how to build modular and testable applications.

5. Ability to learn, troubleshoot and diagnose issues using tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, or Kibana.

6. Knowledge of version control systems, especially Git.

7. Good understanding of IT service management concepts, such as Change, Incident, and Problem management.

8. Experience with agile development practices and an interest in learning about test automation tools and techniques (e.g., TDD, BDD, Cucumber, Gherkin).

9. Familiarity with cloud platforms such as IBM Cloud, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure, or Amazon Web Services (AWS).

10. Better understanding or interest in container technologies like Kubernetes or OpenShift.

11. Familiarity with testing methodologies such asTest DrivenDevelopment (TDD) and Behaviour Driven Development (BDD).

It would be great if you also had experience in…

12. An interest in the financial services sector, especially in areas like Faster Payments or BACS will be helpful.

13. Supports and enables others to use andbenefitfrom existing data management systems.

14. Develops personal capabilities using existing formal and informal training opportunities, while also coaching others asrequired.

15. Identifiesshortcomings in existing processes,systemsand procedures, then uses established change management programmes to deliver prescribed outcomes and/or provide support services.

16. Helps others use and benefit from the existing knowledge management systems.

17. Supports others by performing prescribed product development/engineering activities (e.g., analysing client situations, interpreting data, etc.) using existing procedures.

18. Navigates a wide variety of existing processes,proceduresand precedents to interpret data andidentifypossible answers.

19. Uses product specifications to design test procedures and standards.
