Band 6 Stroke Dietitian

Specialist Band 6 stroke dietitian 22.5 hours per week, flexible working considered, fixed term 12 months to cover maternity leave.
About the role
We are a forward-thinking dietetic department of 22 dietitians working within specialty teams. This role offers a supportive and friendly team, excellent peer support, and regular clinical supervision.
The department is approved for student placements A, B and C. All staff actively participate in student training and are committed to personal development, well-being, and CPD.
As a department we have regular specialty and team meetings with a focus on quality improvement and maintaining CPD.
Main duties
The post holder is a key member of the stroke multidisciplinary team (MDT), working with the wider stroke MDT. Experience working in stroke and enteral feeds is desirable. Enthusiasm and commitment are essential.
Job responsibilities
* Work with the MDT and Specialist Nurses to enhance effective nutrition support on the Acute Stroke Unit (ASU).
* Assist with audit to improve nutrition support for in-patients.
* Offer training to nursing and medical staff on nutrition-related topics.
* Provide high standard of patient-focused care through specialised assessment.
* Plan and deliver a high-quality service to patients working in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team.
* Provide dietetic skills and expertise to complex in-patients.
* Contribute to therapy clinical governance agenda to further improve the quality of the service.
* Deliver clinical supervision, training and support to junior staff and students.
* Coordinate safe and effective discharge/transfer of patients back to home.
* Support reporting and analysis of workload and provide statistical information for managerial purposes.
Key relationships
* Internal: Dietitians, administrative staff, medical and nursing staff, specialist nurses, catering staff, pharmacists, AHPs.
* External: Patients, relatives, carers, homeward staff, GPs, CCG staff, other trust dietitians, social services.
Person Specification
Skills / Knowledge
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to assess individuals with complex medical problems and plan their dietetic care.
* Able to act on own initiative.
Qualifications
* Degree/Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent.
* Registered Dietitian recognised by the HCPC.
* Member of the British Dietetic Association.
Experience
* Working as a Dietitian with clinical experience in the NHS.
* Experience in an acute hospital setting.
* Experience of adult nutrition support including oral and enteral nutrition.
* Experience working on a stroke unit.
* Experience working in an MDT.
Personal Qualities
* Can work independently.
* Recognises own professional limitations.
* Seeks advice from senior colleagues when appropriate.
