Glasgow Caledonian - the largest and leading modern university in Scotland - is a vibrant, values-led university with campuses in the heart of Glasgow and London. We're committed to high-quality education and research supporting the communities we serve, and we have strong partnerships with employers to ensure our students get the careers they dream of and deserve.

In 2025, we continue to be a Top 50 university as ranked by the Guardian University Guide, the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide, and the Daily Mail University Guide. We are EcoCampus Platinum certified and ranked second in Scotland for sustainability in the latest People and Planet league table. We have links with over 300 industry partners and a high proportion of employed graduates (92% in employment or further study within 15 months of graduating, HESA 2025). Glasgow Caledonian is Scotland\'s leading provider of Graduate Apprenticeships, with transnational partnerships supporting more than 22,000 students from nearly 120 countries.

Guided by our values—integrity, responsibility, creativity and confidence—we transform the lives of the people and communities we serve.

The Directorate of Estates and Facilities Management (E&FM) is responsible for the management and day-to-day running of the University estate and for ensuring essential services are in place for all who work, study and visit Glasgow Caledonian. E&FM also leads strategic planning and transformation of the University estate to a modern, responsive and sustainable built environment that enhances student, staff and visitor experience and enacts the University\'s core purpose of delivering high-quality Learning & Teaching.

Over the next 4 years the University will invest significantly in our Glasgow and London campuses via capital investment projects, planned maintenance projects and multiple maintenance works and interventions, defining a fit-for-purpose campus that is vibrant, productive and connected.

We invite applications for an experienced commercial Electrician to join the E&FM Directorate on a 1.0FTE (35 hours per week) basis due to promotion of the current post holder and ongoing maintenance management needs at Glasgow campus. The role supports the Directorate in developing an Asset Management approach for the maintenance of the University\'s estate, including buildings, architectural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing and drainage assets. This role is ideal for an Electrician with commercial experience in maintenance or installations.

Working with the Electrical Supervisor and the Maintenance Manager, the postholder will ensure the efficiency and safety of our electrical installation, distribution systems and related equipment. This will cover planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance and support of minor works and projects. The post holder will also work alongside maintenance contractors in electrical, fire safety and other related systems to uphold high standards of workmanship and maintenance.

This post is essential to support the safe, compliant and comfortable operation of campus services, promoting the University\'s interests with contractors carrying out works on behalf of the University. It also contributes to resilience, knowledge storage and succession planning within the maintenance team.

Experience of working in a similar role in a Higher Education environment would be advantageous.

For further details or an informal, confidential conversation please contact Brian Law, Senior Facilities Manager at Glasgow Caledonian University, brian.law@gcu.ac.uk

The University is a Carer Positive Established employer and signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant. We offer a range of benefits including opportunities for professional development, family-friendly policies, cycle-to-work scheme and onsite childcare facilities.

Please note that the appointment will be made on the first point of the salary scale (unless by exception).
