Freight Forwarder – Customs, Imports & Exports
Ipswich | Full-time | Mon–Fri, 08:30–17:00Salary: £30,000 to £35,000 + Annual Bonus

A long-established national freight forwarder is growing its Ipswich team and is looking for an experienced Freight Forwarder with strong customs knowledge to join their friendly, supportive operation. You’ll become part of a tight-knit group who genuinely care about what they do — and about each other.
What the role really looks like day-to-day
You’ll handle the full end-to-end freight forwarding and customs process for imports and exports across Sea, Air, and Road. Your responsibilities will include:
* Managing the entire customs clearance process from start to finish
* Preparing and submitting accurate declarations via CDS & CHIEF
* Creating job files for LCL, FCL, and Air shipments in MultiFreight
* Monitoring bookings, working with overseas agents, and liaising with sales
* Tracking ETAs, updating customers, and handling vessel delays
* Requesting carrier releases and ensuring hauliers can collect containers without delay
* Arranging delivery bookings directly with customers
* Monitoring container movements and communicating any issues early
* Raising invoices and managing Duty & VAT collections
This is a role for someone who enjoys responsibility, communication, and staying one step ahead in a fast-moving environment.
About You
You’ll be a great fit if you have:
* Experience in freight forwarding, imports, or exports
* Strong working knowledge of CDS & CHIEF
* Good understanding of the Customs Tariff and customs procedures
* Experience working across multiple transport modes
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* High levels of accuracy and attention to detail
* Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret information quickly
* A proactive, organised approach and confidence working independently
* Familiarity with Windows-based applications and industry systems
