Job Overview
Harrow School Nursing Service is seeking highly motivated and innovative practitioners to deliver the Healthy Child Programme. Candidates should be registered nurses qualified as Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPHN). Please only apply if you are a Registered Nurse with a Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) registration.
Key Responsibilities
* Partner with educational staff, health care professionals and other agencies to provide advice and support to children, young people, parents and carers.
* Conduct training sessions for other professionals on relevant health or medical issues and assist children and young people in managing their own health conditions independently.
* Carry out agreed health assessments on children and young people, ensuring referrals, treatments and reviews are conducted in line with Trust policies and procedures.
* Develop individualised health care plans in partnership with health professionals, education staff, parents & carers and other agencies.
* Identify children and young people requiring medical follow‑up planning.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* RGN (NMC Registered) / RSCN Child Branch
* Specialist Practitioner Community Public Health Nurse (School Nursing or Children’s Community Nursing)
Desirable Qualifications
* Evidence of continual professional development
* Mentorship preparation or equivalent
* Public Health Nursing (Children & Families)
* Sexual health (or equivalent)
* School Nurse Certificate
Experience
* Experience of working with children in a professional capacity
* Experience working with families who have experienced trauma
* Proven post‑nursing registration experience
* Experience working with diverse communities
* Evidence supporting experience of audit activity
Knowledge
* Understanding of quality issues, audit processes and clinical governance
* Knowledge of children with long‑term medical needs
* Understanding of the public health role of the school nurse
* Understanding of Equality & Valuing Diversity
* Knowledge of key documents and drivers informing school nursing practice
Skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
* Good computer literacy skills
* Ability to communicate effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and ages; demonstrate understanding of team working
