Assistant Anatomical Pathology Technologist – Mortuary Postmortem Service
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Mortuary Postmortem Service at Mid and South Essex NHS TRUST (MSEFT) for an Assistant Anatomical Pathology Technologist supporting the delivery of the postmortem service.
This AAPT post would suit an enthusiastic, self‑motivated individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work alone and as part of our team. The duties associated with this role are physically and mentally demanding; an essential part is an empathetic approach with our bereaved families and to always support the dignity of the deceased patients.
In addition to a postmortem service, we provide a viewing service for bereaved relatives, run the body store and work with funeral directors and bereavement services to ensure an integrated service for our deceased patients and their relatives.
The assistant will undertake the daily administration and organisation of the work, supervise porters and other non‑mortuary staff, support APTs and trainee APTs, and provide administrative assistance to maintain the HTA licence.
The role is integral to mortuary operations, including audits, risk assessments, competencies, mortuary hygiene and health‑and‑safety responsibilities, and requires working across sites when capacity and demand require.
We aim to deliver excellent local and specialist services, improve health and wellbeing of our patients and provide a vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.
