We have 2 Head of Operations opportunities available within Wincanton, these roles are regional within the North, and the South West/ Midlands. The Head of Operations will oversee and be accountable for, all Transport operational activities across the Sainsburys & Argos sites within their region. A key part of the wider Senior Contract team the role will lead the sites in delivering a best in class safety, service, cost and engagement performance throughout all areas of the network. Duties and responsibilities Responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction on all operational activities and directing major projects Collaborate with senior managers in the development of performance goals and medium to long-term operational plans Analyse current operational processes and performance, recommending solutions for continuous improvement. Devise strategies for ensuring the growth of the sector and implement process improvements to maximise output and minimize costs, aligning to customer needs and expectations. Promote high employee engagement Represent Wincanton at events and build positive relationships with external partners. Act as a role model for organisational culture and values. Assess operational requirements and assign responsibilities. Maintain working knowledge of legal compliance and working sector. Accountable for collation and escalation for customer reporting and relationships. Responsible for reporting and presenting to key stake holders, internally and externally. Work with project managers in the development of financial and budgetary plans Develop, implement, and monitor day-to-day operational systems and processes to provide visibility into the goals, progress, and obstacles of key initiatives Responsible for retainment of overarching KPI measures Draw on relationships with department heads, external partners and stakeholders (Health & Safety, Planning, Account Management, People & Finance) and vendors to make decisions regarding operational activity and medium to long term strategic goals Devise strategies for ensuring the growth of the sector, and implement process improvements to maximize output and minimize costs Adhere to the company's policies and standards, and ensure that laws and regulations are being followed Work closely with Human Resources to lead the team with integrity and to establish and maintain a trusting, inclusive, and productive environment Drive projects from start to finish and assign responsibilities, ensuring successful implementation within timeframe and budget Leadership and development of key reports, ensuring that a clear succession plan is devised and regularly reviewed for own roles and Depot Transport Change and Compliance Lead opportunity to ensure business continuity at all stages. Experience, skills and attributes Proven track record of delivering safe transport operations, underpinned by a behavioural based safety culture; with clear consideration for colleague wellbeing. Demonstrable, relevant senior management/Director experience of leading large teams responsible for delivering high-quality results for demanding customers. Strategic thinker with a deep appreciation of the fast-paced Transport industry, both open and closed book with experience of grocery networks being an advantage. Consistent track record in delivering rounded business improvement and development. Ideally in a transport environment. Transport background, with an excellent understanding of the challenges, risks, opportunities and legislation impacting a very large commercial fleet. A good understanding of the safety critical transport environment and the technology used to create a safe environment on the road, plus further development opportunities in safety, metrics and commercial improvement. Proven leader of people and builder of high performing teams; leading directly and influencing cross functional teams, peers and stakeholders. Driven and motivated self-starter. Commercially astute with a clear focus on driving value across the supply chain for our customers, whilst building commercial success for Wincanton.
