About The Role
As Substation Inspector you will play an important role in the safe completion of the Inspection & Maintenance Programme for the Services region. You will report to the Operational Engineer and will work within UK Power Networks Services (UKPNS) based in the Heathrow office.
Job Purpose:
To work as part of a team or as a lone worker in the UKPNS geographical area, carrying out the full range of duties associated with Substation Inspections, including vegetation management and cleaning at substation voltages up to 33kV.
Principal Accountabilities:
1. Inspection & Non-Intrusive Diagnostic Testing of all plant and apparatus associated with the HV and LV Distribution network
2. Fault location and repair of minor plant defects associated with the HV and LV Distribution network
3. Demonstrate a safety culture embracing the UKPNS stay safe programme
4. Take Oil Samples, if required for diagnostic testing from HV Plant
5. Reporting and completion of work orders through the Hand Held IT equipment
6. Oversee Maintenance/Project/Sub Contract staff within their working party
7. Assist team with other maintenance and project-based work
8. To be prepared to assist other sections e.g. organisational changes and system emergencies as determined by your skills and experience
9. Cleaning of all substation internals, including plant and apparatus associated with the HV and LV Distribution network under UKPN Services' guardianship
10. Cleaning includes dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning internal windows
11. Complete the additional site visits to provide the requirements of the ESQC Regulations
12. HV and LV metre reading
13. Substation external compound vegetation pruning/ removal by manual, mechanical or chemical control
14. Undertake touch-up re-decoration tasks within substations as directed
About You
Skill and Educational Requirements:
15. Educated to at least GCSE level or equivalent
16. Basic Electrical Background and able to recognise dangers within substations
17. An understanding of the Electricity at Work Act
18. Understand electrical diagrams and maps
19. Flexibility to work alone and in a team environment
20. Resolve issues in a practical way
21. Must have a full clean driving licence
22. An understanding of Health & Safety and Environmental Legislation
23. Undertake data input onto the hand held devices
24. Knowledge of chemicals and other supplies
25. Familiarity with material Safety Data Sheets
26. Familiarity with 'sharps' management

30. Demonstrate a five-year continuous, traceable work history to allow achieving airport security access
31. If you are successful, you will need to undertake a medical and DBS reference check
