A forward-thinking NHS organisation is seeking an experienced interim leader to drive improvements in patient flow and discharge processes as part of a wider Financial Recovery Programme.
This assignment will focus on ensuring patients move efficiently through the system — from admission to safe and timely discharge — reducing unnecessary delays, improving bed utilisation and supporting better outcomes for patients.
Working closely with clinical, operational and system partners, you will lead initiatives that streamline pathways and strengthen coordination across health and social care services.
Key Responsibilities
Improving Patient Flow
* Review patient journeys to identify delays, inefficiencies and bottlenecks
* Implement initiatives that improve the movement of patients from admission through to discharge
* Support operational teams to create more efficient and responsive pathways
Optimising Discharge Processes
* Reduce delays for patients who are medically fit for discharge
* Improve discharge planning and coordination across teams
* Strengthen collaboration with community services, domiciliary care providers and social care partners
System-Wide Collaboration
* Work across acute, community, social care and mental health partners to improve whole-system flow
* Develop robust escalation processes and proactive discharge planning approaches
* Support stronger integration across services
Delivering Financial Benefits
* Improve bed utilisation and reduce unnecessary length of stay
* Contribute to cost improvements linked to improved patient flow
About You
You’ll be a senior operational healthcare leader with experience delivering improvements in patient flow, discharge management or urgent care pathways.
You’ll bring:
* Strong understanding of integrated health and social care systems
* Experience improving patient pathways across organisational boundaries
* A collaborative leadership style and the ability to influence across complex systems
* A track record of delivering measurable operational and financial improvements
