We are looking for a proactive and dynamic Financial Crime Officer to join the UK Marsh McLennan Financial Crime Team, at a time when the company is going through an exciting period of growth and change. The position can be based in either Norwich, London or York and is a hybrid role, with a minimum requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

The UK Marsh McLennan Financial Crime Team manages the UK’s Financial Crime Framework and helps UK entities meet their legal and regulatory requirements. This includes Financial Crime prevention, detection and investigation across the areas of Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Terrorist Financing, Sanctions and Export Controls, Anti-Bribery & Corruption (ABC) including Third Party Providers (TPPs) and Gifts & Entertainment, Fraud, Tax Evasion and Market Abuse.


This role predominantly focuses on our sanctions and export controls risk, but the team is diverse, and the role will provide support to the team and business across a broad range of financial crime risks.

We will rely on you to:

4. Work to become a sanctions subject matter expert through on-the-job learning as you offer support, guidance and challenge to our UK business
5. Build key relationships so you can provide ongoing support and advice in respect of sanctions referrals and enquiries
6. Develop and learn so you can respond to complex cases and draft reports for internal and external use
7. Support the development, maintenance and roll out of Company policies and procedures and the wider UK financial crime framework
8. Keep up to date on relevant financial crime developments so they can be applied to the role
9. Support the wider Financial Crime Team with Business As Usual (BAU) activity, including responding to enquiries, referrals and escalations as and when necessary
10. Support the Financial Crime Team and business on related projects and workstreams to both ensure compliance with laws and regulations and to enhance the existing framework
11. Provide support on training to the business as and when required

What you need to have:

12. Sanctions experience within the financial services sector, alongside a broad understanding of applicable financial crime laws, regulations and risks.
13. Willingness to learn and upskill your knowledge of UK and international trade sanctions legislation and export controls
14. An ability and desire to read relevant laws and regulations and consider how they are, or will be, applied in practice
15. An ability to build and maintain good working relationships with teams and individuals across the company
16. An ability to look at specific cases methodically and analytically, allowing you to assess whether sufficient information has been obtained prior to responding with any decision
17. A good work ethic with a proactive attitude meaning you are willing to step in and support a busy team as and when required
18. Highly motivated and enthusiastic self-starter with the ability to prioritise workload and to work under pressure
19. Ability to work effectively at all levels and pick up procedures/processes quickly
20. Strong written and verbal communication skills
21. Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail

What makes you stand out:

22. Experience of working in the insurance sector with a good understanding of regulatory requirements relevant to the financial crime risks of the company’s business, and the market
23. Knowledge of financial sanctions obligations and export controls
24. Good working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint with experience analysing data, creating reports and training presentations
25. University Degree or recognised industry accreditation (for example, ICA Qualification)
