Base Engine Components Design Engineer

2 Year Contract - likely to be extended
37 Hours a week Monday - Friday
Up to £37.80p/h PAYE plus holiday and pension contribution OR up to £51.30p/h Umbrella
What the Base Engine Components Design Engineer will do
* Design and package engine components such as major aluminium and cast iron castings, geartrain, valvetrain, drivetrain and in-cylinder components.
* Input to system design development for the breather, cooling, FEAD & lubrication system.
* Work in a multi-disciplined global team to ensure solutions meet customer, durability and functional requirements.
* Develop strong relationships with suppliers.
* Plan and manage project and sub‑project deliverables, with the ability to lead.
* Conduct risk assessment through effective FMEA generation on components and systems to identify and mitigate design risks and determine validation needs.
* Generate and conduct design reviews to gain wider approval.
* Maintain communication to peers, team leader and stakeholders with progress against planned activities.
* Work with suppliers using APQP methodology and tools.
What the Base Engine Components Design Engineer Will Need
* Expert level of expertise in complex CAD geometry (CREO preferred).
* A sound understanding of the requirements of systems that interact with these components such as rotating systems, valvetrain, lubrication, breather and cooling systems, bolted joint and sealing experience.
* Strong understanding of casting and machining processes related to casting of complex cast iron components.
* Minimum of 6 years design experience in CAD.
* Strong technical background (HNC or technical degree preferred in mechanical or automotive engineering).
* Good understanding of component manufacturing principles & processes.
* Good understanding of manufacturing assembly principles.
* Design knowledge of engine & mechanical components and systems.
