Our award-winning client urgently needs a junior engineer to join their expanding team. The Junior Systems Engineer will be responsible for deploying, configuring, and maintaining the company's systems. The role also involves assisting with server-related tasks across the organization and collaborating with the lead system administrator and software team on new solution designs.
The ideal candidate will have a junior-level technical background in infrastructure and some experience in delivering technical solutions.
POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Junior Systems Engineer handles deployment, configuration, and maintenance of systems, supporting all server-related tasks across the company and working with senior staff on new solutions.
The role requires someone with a technical implementation background in infrastructure and practical experience in delivering technical solutions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Set up and configure new or existing database systems with master/slave replication.
* Conduct problem analysis and generate case documentation for escalation.
* Backup databases and logs.
* Manage the IT ticket queue.
* Document procedures and policies.
* Manage Servers/Infrastructure (Linux/Windows).
* Implement security policies.
* Maintain and extend monitoring, metrics, and alerting systems using Site24x7.
* Provide on-call support as per rota, including escalation.
* Support the company's obligations regarding Data Protection and Information Security as needed.
PROFILE
The role requires a person committed to quality, with high attention to detail, good teamwork skills, and a positive attitude. The candidate should be able to manage their time effectively when handling problems independently.
SKILLS
Ideally, you will be a recent graduate or possess strong academic Linux skills.
You should have exposure to the following areas through college, university, or your current role:
* MySQL 5.5+ Administration
* Virtualisation (VMWare, Hyper-V, Xen)
* Network knowledge (TCP/UDP/VPN/DNS)
* WSUS & Active Directory
* Monitoring solutions (Nagios, Cacti, Site24x7)
* Automation technologies (Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
* Ability to troubleshoot, prioritize, and triage issues
* Flexibility to adapt to changing business needs
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS / CERTIFICATIONS
* A degree or equivalent education is expected.
* No specific qualifications or certifications are required.
* Must be able to obtain UK security clearance.
