Clinical services at the hospital are presently divided into threeClinical Business Units (CBUs).Each CBU is led by a triumvirateconsisting of an Associate Director of Operations, Associate Director ofNursing and Clinical Director, who are supported by Matrons and ServiceManagers, together with HR, Finance and Informatics Teams.
TheOphthalmology Service sits within the Surgery CBU and provides acutehospital eye services for the population of Barnsley and surrounding areas.
This is a very exciting time to join the OphthalmologyDepartment at Barnsley Hospital as the department has recently moved to theAlhambra Outpatients Department in the Barnsley town centre. The Trust plans tosignificantly invest in the redesign of the service over the next three yearsin order to deliver an efficient, patient-centred, one-stop service inpartnership with other local providers.
The department currently consists of three ConsultantOphthalmologists, as listed below with their sub-specialities, a SpecialistDoctor and three Specialty Doctors. We have recently recruited to afourth Consultant Ophthalmologist as well as these posts.
Inaddition, the department will also besupported by Orthoptists, Nurse Practitioners and Ophthalmic Technicians.
Main duties of the job
Main Duties and Responsibilities
You will provide a clinical service in conjunction with yourcolleagues and under the direction of Consultant Ophthalmologists, which willinclude the responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment ofillness.
The post holder will be involved with the examination andtreatment of new patients in the department and will also assist in the reviewclinics. The post holder will also be involved with the management of surgicaltreatments within Day Surgery and Main Theatre.
A provisional Job Plan will consist of 1-2 Theatre sessions,5 Clinics, 1 Laser session and 1 Flexi session per week, totalling 8 clinicalsessions, leaving 1 PGME session and 1 Admin/Audit session.Allsessions are scheduled for a 4 hour duration.
You will be expected to deputise for absent colleagues andin exceptional unforeseen circumstances may have to perform additional dutiesto ensure the safe running of thedepartment. Where such duties take placeoutside your normal contracted duties, you will receive either an equivalentoff duty period or will be remunerated appropriately.
You will be required to participate in the riskmanagement process and in clinical audit and other clinical governanceactivities within the department, the directorate and theTrust.
You will be required to participate in the Trust AppraisalScheme in conjunction with your Supervising Consultant, to identify trainingand development needs.

* Experience of working at middle grade
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* Full Registration with a licence to practice with the GMC
* Equivalent of FRCOphth / Overseas equivalent

* Good command of English and meet the scoring criteria for IELTS as per GMC overall 7.5 score.
