We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Oral Health Educator to lead the delivery and implementation of a Supervised Toothbrushing Programme for children in early years and school settings across Sunderland and South Tyneside.
This role is a hands-on community focused role which is all about prevention, empowerment and making a lasting difference. You will be at the heart of our objective to help children develop healthy habits that last a lifetime by working with educational staff. This role is central to improving children 0oral health outcomes, reducing health inequalities, and supporting prevention-focused care in areas of high need. The postholder will work closely with schools, early years settings, families and partner agencies to ensure the programme is delivered safely, consistently and in line with national guidance.
Main duties of the job
* Rollout, delivery and ongoing support of the supervised toothbrushing programme across schools and early years settings
* Provide training and support to school and nursery staff to ensure safe, effective and sustainable delivery
* Deliver age-appropriate oral health education sessions for children, parents/carers and staff
* Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control, safeguarding, consent and data protection requirements
* Monitor programme uptake, quality and sustainability, maintaining accurate records and contributing to evaluation and reporting
* Identify and support children with additional or complex needs, adapting approaches where required
* Work collaboratively with public health, education and dental services to support wider oral health improvement initiatives

To assist in the development, effective and efficient implementation, delivery and evaluation of oral health promotion programmes to raise awareness and improve the oral health of people living within Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Oral Health Promotion Qualification.
* National Certificate for Dental Nurses or NVQ level 3 in dental nursing.
* Registration with the General Dental Council.
* Adult teaching certificate (or a willingness to undertake within 12 months of employment).
* Certificate in the application of fluoride varnish.
Experience
* Experience in face-to-face delivery of oral health interventions with small and larger groups.
* Ability to network and build effective and cooperative working relationships across internal and external stakeholders.
* Experience of delivery of on-line training.
Physical Skills
* Car driver essential and must be able to meet the travel requirements to fulfil the role.
Skills & Knowledge
* Knowledge of Delivering Better Oral Health Toolkit.
* Possess comprehensive IT skills and ability to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint and desktop publishing.
* Evidence of good communication & interpersonal skills.
* Flexible approach to day to day working.
* Reliable and punctual.
