Secondary SEMH 1:1 Support Assistants Needed
Be the steady hand a young person can rely on
Our partner Secondary SEMH schools are looking for calm, confident and compassionate Learning Mentors to support young people who need someone in their corner, every single day. These roles are 1:1, relationship-focused and absolutely pivotal to helping students re-engage with learning.
If you’re someone who can stay grounded when things get wobbly, build trust through consistency and celebrate progress in all its forms, this could be the perfect next step.
What the role involves
You’ll be supporting a secondary-aged pupil who may struggle with emotional regulation, behaviour, confidence or engagement. Your role is part mentor, part motivator and part safe, steady presence.
You’ll be:
• Supporting a young person 1:1 throughout the school day
• Helping them regulate emotions and routines
• Using strategies like de-escalation, co-regulation and restorative conversations
• Encouraging positive choices and building lasting confidence
• Working closely with teachers, behaviour teams and pastoral leads
• Creating structure and calm when the day feels challenging
Every small win matters, and you’ll be part of each one.
Who we’re looking for
• Someone resilient, patient and emotionally intelligent
• Experience supporting young people, especially those with SEMH needs
• A calm communicator who can defuse tension rather than escalate it
• Someone who understands behaviour as communication
• Confidence setting clear, warm boundaries
• A genuine interest in helping teenagers feel safe, valued and understood
What SEMH schools offer
• Highly supportive, trauma-informed staff teams
• Clear routines and strong pastoral structures
• Training in emotional regulation and behaviour support
• A chance to have a real impact on a young person’s life
