Key skills: * Control systems development – (model based software, utilising Matlab / Simulink) * Development of PLC based control software with associated network and communication protocols * Development of HMI / UI for customer use * Able to travel occasionally to support trials, installation and commissioning About the Role This is an exciting opportunity to support the development of sustainable technologies within a growing and forward-thinking start-up. The company requires an engineer or senior engineer who can work effectively and autonomously in a start-up environment. You will play a pivotal role in developing and delivering PLC based control systems, with responsibility for the full controls lifecycle: from architecture and algorithm design through to onboard commissioning and trials. Use of Matlab, Simulink and model based control software is needed. This is a small, agile team where you’ll be expected to take initiative, solve problems independently, and apply yourself to new challenges. You will need to be able to work from a blank sheet of paper, capturing requirements, proposing and delivering the complete solution. Skills / Knowledge required: * Ideally a degree or similar in a relevant field (e.g. electrical engineering, mechatronics, software engineering) * Strong experience with the design and programming of PLC-based control systems (Matlab, Simulink) and automation systems (From scratch) * Knowledge of networking and communication protocols (e.g. CANbus, Modbus, IP, NMEA, etc) * Solid understanding of control system architecture (able to capture requirements, develop systems specifications, implement design solution, etc) * Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously and tackle unfamiliar problems * Willingness to travel occasionally for product trials, installation, commissioning * Model-based design using Matlab/Simulink tools * Able to design and develop HMI / UI using high level software (e.g. C#, C++) Others (beneficial): * Experience with AI/ML techniques for enhancing control systems * Knowledge of marine regulations and standards * Human Machine Interface (HMI) design for demanding / rugged environments This role will be based in Hampshire, and the company offers hybrid working.
