THE ROLE:
We are recruiting an Accounts Assistant to join our Finance team, replacing a long-standing team member who will be retiring. This is a key role, responsible for the accurate management of customer accounts, cash allocation, credit control, and reconciliations.
This role will suit someone with at least one year of experience in Accounts Payable or Account Receivable or similar, who is highly process and systems-driven, enjoys working with data and controls, and is motivated by improving how finance processes operate.
In addition to day-to-day responsibilities, the role will support ad-hoc finance and systems projects and offers professional study support.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sales Ledger & Credit Control
* Preparation and processing of invoices, receipts, and payments.
* Monitoring customer balances and reviewing and/or applying for credit limits.
* Processing customer refunds where required.
* Daily bank reconciliations and journal postings.
Recharges
* Raising recharges to brand partners.
* Maintaining a prospective recharges (debit note) log.
* Chasing payment of debit notes and resolving related queries.
Additional Responsibilities
* Reconciling staff shop purchases within accounts receivable.
* Supporting month-end and year-end activities as required.
* Assisting with ad-hoc finance, systems, and process improvement projects.
* Working closely with internal stakeholders to improve controls, accuracy, and efficiency.
REQUIREMENTS:
Essential
* At least one year of experience as an Accounts Assistant or Assistant Accountant.
* Relevant industry experience within the FMCG/distribution industry is highly desirable, but we value transferable skills just as much as direct experience.
* Accounting knowledge at AAT level (or equivalent).
* Strong reconciliation skills and excellent attention to detail.
* Confident using accounting systems (ERP experience desirable).
* Strong Excel skills.
* A process-driven and systems-focused mindset, with an interest in improving how things are done.
* Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in diverse teams.
* A problem-solving mindset and a willingness to learn, whether through formal training, work experience, or self-driven learning.
Desirable
* Experience reviewing or managing customer credit limits.
* Exposure to process improvement or systems development projects.
* Experience with Sage (Sage X3 desirable but not essential).
