Job Summary: The Mental Health Care Group of Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust comprises three care units; Adult Mental Health, Mental Health Services for Older People and Specialist Services. Job Description

Main duties of the job

Nottinghamshire Perinatal Mental Health Team is a multidisciplinary and well-established service providing tailored approaches to meet the mental health needs of women and their families in the perinatal period. You will have opportunities for direct one-to-one and group-based therapeutic work with women experiencing a wide range of mental health problems, often relating to complex trauma or attachment difficulties. You will also have opportunities for indirect work, offering supervision, consultation and training to colleagues within the MDT and the wider maternity system. The service is seeking to develop psychological interventions across multiple pathways within and between services, and you will be invited to contribute to innovative service design and improvement.

Responsibilities

To plan and provide specialist psychological assessments and interventions in the community. To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance, consultation, training and supervision to other professionals, assistant psychologists and trainee clinical psychologists. To maintain a safe working environment for all staff and users, and to carry out other tasks as requested by the Head of Service.

To undertake initial assessments and direct one-to-one and group-based therapeutic work with women in the perinatal period, often relating to complex trauma or attachment difficulties. To contribute to indirect work through supervision, consultation and training within the MDT and wider maternity system. To contribute to development of psychological interventions across multiple pathways and service design and improvement. To support multi-disciplinary team working and promote a person/family-centred ethos. The post involves a commitment to supervision and professional development.


Experience, Qualifications and Skills

Essential

* Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the Health Professions Council
* Experience of working with women and their families who have a range of complex mental health difficulties
* Experience of risk assessment and risk management informing clinically competent assessments including mental state, risk and formulation
* Experience of multidisciplinary teamwork and effectively working with other disciplines
* Experience of providing evidence-based interventions for users of the service
* Experience of working systemically within a mental health setting and in multi-disciplinary and agency working including health and social care
* Experience of providing clinical supervision in relation to complex cases to junior staff and peers
* Demonstrates experience of providing care sensitive to the needs of minority groups

Desirable

* Experience of work with adults with complex mental health problems
* Experience of working with people with trauma, loss and grief

Knowledge

* Understanding and working knowledge of mental health and perinatal mental health
* Knowledge of current Mental Health policy and legislation
* Knowledge and experience of Safeguarding Adults and Children practice
* Knowledge of policy drivers for mental health and perinatal mental health
* Knowledge of therapeutic approaches and interventions with women affected by loss or trauma

Qualifications

* Essential: A higher therapy qualification (Masters or Doctorate) eligible for HCPC registration (Art Therapist, CBT Therapist, Psychologist, Mother and Infant Psychotherapist)
* Desirable: Additional training in therapeutic modality

Skills

* Ability to provide consultation to other non-psychology colleagues and to teach/train
* Ability to make judgments in complex clinical situations
* Ability to identify clinical governance issues and contribute to standards improvement
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of the MDT
* Strong verbal and written communication, influencing and negotiation skills
* Ability to network with a wide range of people and services
* Leadership and management skills for service planning and development
* Specialist and sound assessment skills including risk assessment and management
* Ability to manage complex cases and make sound clinical decisions
* Experience in managing serious untoward incidents
* Good initiative and organisational skills; good IT/microsoft skills


Contractual and Other Requirements

* A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post

UK Registration: Applicants must have current UK professional registration. This post is not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship if below the minimum salary for sponsorship. DBS checks apply as described above.
