Financial Controller - 12 month FTC - South Yorkshire
About the Role
We're looking for a qualified accountant to join our collaborative finance team in South Yorkshire. You'll play a key role in delivering accurate financial reporting, supporting business growth, and driving process improvements. This position offers genuine variety—from preparing management accounts and supporting audits, to contributing to strategic initiatives and helping shape the commercial direction of the business.
What You'll Be Doing
Financial Reporting & Compliance
* Prepare monthly management accounts with variance analysis and insightful commentary
* Assist in the preparation of statutory financial statements in line with UK GAAP
* Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness
* Manage day-to-day banking activities and reconciliations
* Liaise with external auditors and support the year-end audit process
Strategic Support
* Support budgeting and forecasting processes across the business
* Contribute to financial modelling and analysis for new initiatives
* Provide timely, accurate financial reporting to internal stakeholders
* Apply a commercial lens to financial data to support strategic planning
* Deliver actionable insights that help shape commercial strategy
Process Improvement
* Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes and improve efficiency
* Support the integration of technology to enhance reporting and reconciliation
* Contribute to identifying opportunities where AI can enhance financial controls
* Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard business assets and data
* Drive continuous improvement across finance operations
What We're Looking For
Essential
* Qualified ACA or ACCA
(or equivalent professional qualification)
* Strong technical accounting knowledge and solid understanding of UK GAAP
* Excellent attention to detail and analytical capabilities
* Proficient in Excel and comfortable working with financial systems (experience with Practice Engine and Xero is advantageous)
* Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across teams
* Proactive, adaptable mindset with eagerness to learn and grow
* Comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment while maintaining accuracy
