Diabetic eye screening is a test to check for eye problems caused by diabetes. It can detect issues before sight is affected; pictures are taken of the back of the eyes to check for changes.

Job responsibilities
Role: Trainee Health Screener Grader
Location: Kent & Medway
Salary: £23,809.50 rising upon completion of your diploma
Experience in a caring environment or hospital background is preferable but not necessary. Screeners come from all walks of life. You will be trained on the job and will gain the skills and knowledge to complete your Health Screener Diploma. There are opportunities to progress your career in Diabetic Eye Screening with salaries up to £45k after training, including roles such as Screener/Grader, Arbitration Grader, Referral Outcome Grader, OCT examiner, OCT grader, Slit Lamp Examiner, and Team Leader/Management.
Key duties of a Screener
* Ensure patients are made to feel welcome and comfortable during the screening process
* Undertake the screening checklist to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff
* Carry out basic maintenance of the camera and equipment to obtain the best possible images
* Safely administer eye drops to enlarge pupils and photograph with correct field of view
* Identify patients requiring urgent onward referral at the time of screening
* Maintain a sufficient stock of consumables to run the clinic
Who we are looking for
* Compassionate individuals who are empathetic towards patients’ needs
* Willingness to travel to screening services in the Tunbridge and Sevenoaks area
* Ability to take detailed, close-up pictures and remain composed
* Adaptable with the ability to think quickly and resolve problems
* Flexible in working week with possible evening and weekend work and commitment to completing the Health Screener Diploma within the required timescale
* Interest in a career in the care profession
* Enjoy working with the public, are caring, and have a customer-service focus
* Full driving licence and access to a car for travel to clinics
